Time To Move On

I've owned my 4.0ltr now for over 5 years and it's time for a change. I'm not after a Porche, can't afford the Ferrari yet and even the Noble's haven't dropped enough for my wallet, no I'm going to change it for a... Griff 500!

The problem I've got is that the speedo on my car has just started playing up. I'm guessing that it is the sensor that has gone but I need to sort it out before I can sell. Can anyone advise about how to replace the speedo sensor? Is it a straightforward job or will I have to fork out and take it to the dealers?

I'm just doing this with my 4.0 now - I've had help in locating the transducer at the gearbox end. You have to remove the exhaust to see the cables and transducer.

The transducer then comes out easily enough - one 10mm bolt holding a clamp and then it's out. Rover gave me a part no (which depends on how many teeth and colour of drive wheel, mine is orange and 20 teeth) DRC8007A which comes in at £92.98 inc VAT (outragous).

Before that I took mine to an electronics shop who had an oscilloscope and we looked for pulses coming out - none - so I can only assume it's the tranducer.

I've got mine out so I can send a pic if you want.

Mine was an old (early) one and they were temperate sensitive!!! The sensor checked out fine!!! This speedo's guage went from bottom left round to bottm right, there were quite a few types of speedo used IIRC.

Andy, you said your's was temperature sensitive - I assume that yours faulted intermittently then, just like mine. Did you resolve the problem, if so how?

Hope you get a cheap solution! I changed the sensor, and found that I had to change the speedo as well - there seemed to be a mismatch...

Still it got sorted albeit £££!!.

Try taking off the sensor and cleaning it first as per the bible it worked for me.

I read the same in the bible, it also explains that there are different types of sensor, located in different places.

I was looking for the same type as pic in bible and hoped cleaning or positioning of the sensor to the cogged wheel would work.

When I took mine off it was completely different and the sensor is a complete unit and is driven directly from the gearbox.....TVR's don't you just love 'em.
