LOW Flying Apache

[Stuck In A Lift]

I work in a office on the Kent Science Park, on the Downs in Kent. I heard A helicopter, assumed it was one of the Police ones that come over once in A while, but as it got close I realised it was something special.

I looked out the second floor window just in time to see it go past, it was almost level with the second floor. Amazing to see it so close and so low, hope it comes back every day.

Let's hope the engine doesn't fail over a built-up area then. CAA 500' IIRC?

Had one over Colchester tonight so might be the same one. The entire UK airspace is available for low flying by the military, happy to be corrected on that though.

I saw possibly the same Apache over Lexden on my cycle home tonight. I say saw, I could hear it and see the imposing outline when it's anti collision lights flashed. Awesome machine!

UK Military helicopters are cleared down to zero feet AFAIK, I've flown under some national grid wires in an RAF Puma and that wasn't at 500', or 250', or even 10'!!!

No, in fact I was illustrating the same phenomenon as police cars breaking speed limits. Even military traffic has to fit in with everybody else.

Lost count of the amount of times they come over here (15 miles from Colchester).

They fly out of Wattisham so are always buzzing around.

Yup, semi-regular here. Brilliant when they practice touch-and-go moves on the airfield, I can watch them from my office.

I live in Hundon which is close to the highest point in Suffolk. Seem to get them hovering around a lot, I wonder if thery are calibrating their altimeters?

Quite disconcerting when driving home to find on at 20ft staring straight at you as you turn into the village!

we get Apache and Chinook at tree/steeple height as we are close to the national memorial and on some flight path, but the closest heli-base I know of is at Ternhill
