Taking kids to school.
Drop 'em off.
Drive away from school at 25-30 mph.
Get towards a pelican crossing - green light.
30 yards ahead of pelican crossing I hear some shouting.
Kid (about 14 or 15) walks in front of me (oblivious with headphones in).
I jam on anchors and just stop in time.
I too my horn to let him know he's still alive.
He gives me the finger.
Darwinism in action I'm thinking!

I had a kid yesterday walk out in front of me. He looked in the other direction and then just walked out right in front of me without looking in my direction. Judging by the look on his face he got quite the fright and might have had a trouser accident but then when I drove past, he tried to big himself up in front of his mates by doing Michael Jackson moves in the middle of the road.

The joy you get from flipping someone the finger, you just know that they're going mad on the receiving end smile

There's a school not far from me.
Regularly at lunchtime I see the teenage f**knuggets running across the busy main road, playing chicken with the traffic. Some of them think it's hilarious when a car has to slam its brakes on, even better if it's a bus full of people.

Not that long ago I had the pleasure of having to swerve to avoid one of them who got pushed into the road by one of their "mates" and as looked round I noticed the sad bunches of flowers and teddy bears tied to the fence outside the school from where one of their number had got it a bit wrong.

If they cannot learn from the most graphic of demonstrations, heaven help them.
And us, since it's them we'll be relying on to finance our pensions.

Surely Darwinism is only in action if you'd ran over and killed the little scrote ?

I nearly got a headphone wearing cyclist a few weeks ago,she just rode straight off the curb into the road. I was so close to her back wheel.I give her an unfriendly toot-toot then got a load of abuse back from her. I tried to explane that she was at fault but got even more abuse. Running her over would not have bothered me,but the damage to my car would have.

I've read quite a few threads about people walking/cycling into path of traffic with earphones in. If you mow them down, are you open to prosecution.

Three little sts went to cross the road in front of me (on a 40 road where I was surprisingly doing 35mph), they clocked me approaching the kerb they were standing on and stepped into the road anyway. I knew I could stop in time but I couldn't resist throwing up a finger, dipping the clutch and revving my engine. A 911 with sports cans isn't particularly quiet and I visibly laughed a lot as they shat themselves and ran back onto the kerb.

I don't know about prosecution, but what if the person was deaf rather than stupid?

Shirley they would be extra aware of traffic and not just out to test our excellent braking skills...

Or just another indicator of the general decline in British standards.

I saw a lad do this myself a couple of years ago. I am not sure if it was an attempt to impress a group of girls and/or making progress as he stepped out into the road on his own a few yards from a crossing instead of crossing with the larger group of kids there.

He got my disapproving glare.

I'm glad it wasn't me that he stepped out in front of. That driver lent on the horn. I guess these youngsters will get some awareness and consideration once they get behind the wheel?

Dear God, man!!!! You are, surprisingly, light years from dementia! Or maybe not, it's just your long term memory which is in perfect working order - you probably can't remember what you had for breakfast! smile

In these cases I'd have just gone to the school in question and talked to the head about the need for some road safety lectures/ban on ipods/phones before one of the little aholes gets themselves maimed or killed.

Hours of listening to that boring bks and confiscation of devices in school time would be payback for the finger...........

If you're deaf you use your eyes - like I do!
