Does anyone have any experience of the different hans devices and their differences,
more specifically the difference between the schroth ones and the stand 21 items..
Im probably looking at either the schroth sport 2 or the stand 21 club series, or the stand 21 rs-2
I know the main differences are weight, but do they differ in design and comfort much, they are alllatest generation designs?
Cheers
Graham

And it's an awesome deal - well worth being a member for. There's also a members deal on some helmets, too.
Yes great work from hugo and the team, nice to see a race series helping with such a cruical safety device. Just wish I had the funds to race this year with them again. I've had a Schroth one for about nine years now, it's the original spec without the slippy strap, but to be honest, I've not had any issues with it. Like Andy said, once you're in and strapped up, you forget it's there (except in my case I have very limited left/right movement!!)
Must get the update kit for it...
There is the new Simpson device that's supposed to be even lighter. It's recently gained FIA approval too.

Having never tried a HANS before I took the opportunity to test one on Stand21's stand at Autosport yesterday. They're down to £350 inc VAT now so proper affordable. Must say I hardly noticed the 950g (?) weight so I certainly wouldn't bother paying a fortune for a carbon fibre one, plus they're sliding tether as standard. Only thing is I'd need a new helmet as mine doesn't have posts.

CSCC are offering their Hans (Stand 21) Devices to members for £225.00 including VAT delivered, plus have demon offer until 31st. January on Hedtec Hans Hemets.
typically i find this out after i bought the stand 21 one for 350 on friday.... i might do a few cscc races so joining them woould have been worth it..i was plesantly surprised with the 950g weight i hardly noticed it... another 150 to loose 100g didnt seem necessary.
just need a new helmet to go with it

Hans device would slow the pitstop down in a CSCC race?Do you still have to get out of the car?
Yes you do. The CSCC recently published a list of pit stop times from the 2012 season and the fastest pit stop pair in Tin Tops both used HANS devices and won races; they accomplished the pit stop in something like 41 seconds. Didn't seem to slow them down much. Others achieved broadly similar times whilst wearing Hans devices too.It takes practice but it can be done.

You do, and that was always a faff, making sure you got the belts back over the HANS properly, my concern being ill refitting of it in a rush...
A few seconds on a pit stop . . . six months in a neck brace. Sounds like a reasonable trade-off to me, but then I'm not a racer!Yup,i did do a few pitstops with the CSCC in 2010!When you are racing and its very close its such a shame to lose a race because someone has a easier to get out of car with smaller door bars(This happened to me at Donnington if i remember),when you are in a position like this and you are getting back in a car and rushing a HANS would make that tricky i think.Belting up is something i take alot of time up over now and not something i would want to rush to be honest, will this ever be rethought??
