D2 what's it worth?
Discussion
Trying to decide whether to fix my D2 or not... I wonder what it's worth broken?
It's a 99 D2. 117k but engine seized. Fantastic history and condition. 7 seats, DVD, ladder, light guards, navy blue, sun roofs etc I bought it from a girl at work who had had it for 7 years. I paid £3.5k for it. I am looking at about a grand for a decent engine 2nd hand. But I wonder if I might be better off just selling and buying a newer car.
Any ideas on value? Thanks

I've just been offered €3250 (I'm in Belgium) for a 2000 MY Disco 2 in PX against a new one. Mine has got nearly double the mileage yours has, and sounds about the same spec.
Mine has been well maintained (garage during warranty), then by ourselves afterwards, but at this sort of age, problems keep arising - in the last 12 months, the ACS system failed, and last week the compressor for the air suspension died. The cost of parts alone has meant that we swapped the ACS system for traditional anti-roll bars, and have now junked the air suspension in favour of springs.
To replace the parts needed for the ACS system would have cost us more than €600 in parts alone (I've got a pretty good workshop - including a lift), and the air suspension compressor would also have been more than €450. You can get cheaper parts off the internet, but havng helped a friend try to fit cheap parts on his ACS system (we gave up in the end), I wouldn't risk it.
They are great cars when working, but at a certain age/mileage, have the potential to cost a lot of money. Get rid.

Working, it's probably worth approx £4k...
If the rest of the car is in good nick, you might be better off just dropping another engine in.

Gets my vote.If the rest of the car is in good nick, you might be better off just dropping another engine in.

As a non-runner you're appealing mainly to the back yard spanner monkey who just won't pay the extra for the condition.

You know the car, you like it. Stick a new engine in and enjoy.
Thanks. Am getting it looked at before I decide. But am engine is £1200 plus fitting. So £2k all in with odds n sods. Means car cost me £5.5k. Whereas if I get £2k for browken 1 then I only lose £1.5k
Also am getting a contribution from previous owner to soften blow of either option. Hmmm get rid appeals currently... Or maybe...

You'll be forever trying to break it for bits. Either mend it or sell it whole and let someone else mend it or sell all the sAlso am getting a contribution from previous owner to soften blow of either option. Hmmm get rid appeals currently... Or maybe...
te two pence bits.I am not sure I want to fix it. It's very straight and well loved by previous owner. The garage are inspecting it for me to confirm if there are any nasties eg chassis. If the list of expenditures increases then it may be less likely one that I want to fix. I have found a decent td5 10p engine to drop in it. So likely could end up a good one again.
Was thinking it through with logic, not emotion.
Sadly, as a non runner it's not worth much, you know this already though.
To fix, is roughly £2k, there or thereabouts.
If it is straight and honest, then it may only need some bushes or ball joints etc.
If the chassis is rotten. Walk away as i'm currently reading in LRM about a D2 rechassis, it's a pig of a job to do!

Yep same here - hence questions re values etc so as to have a considered view on whether its worth doing. I am going to see garage now ish to look at the chassis. Sadly, as a non runner it's not worth much, you know this already though.
