As I am currently at the stage of my career where I'm interviewing for the first time for roles that are autonomous/senior/management rather than simply functional roles, I've been flabberghasted by the difference in the recruitment process. I've come into contact with a few recruitment agencies and it seems that the bespoke, people-centred side of recruitment is alive and kicking and that companies still do recruit the person not the job spec.

I've previously been a cynic about the organ-grinding, mass market recruitment I went through for earlier roles, but it's been refreshing to deal with these pragmatic, intelligent bods finding people for key roles, who are more interested in getting the right job for the person than simply churning CVs into companies.

I'm not sure what my point is, or even if I have a point, but I felt I had to share.

My missus has had experience of both... Some specialist engineering ones that are very person orientated and very good in finding opportunities for her. But some 'off the high street' ones just seem to see your job spec, throw it up in the air and where it lands that's who your recommended for. For instance, always done engineering admin, heavy plant hire co-ordination, SPoC etc. she got offered a fish packing job at youngs'!
She doesn't even bother with them now, just stays with The specialists!

Unfortunately, only a very small handful come anywhere near that sort of standard. Most just ignore you completely even when you tick every box on the job spec.

Have been dealing with Silchester Conference Group and they have been excellent. They have provided guidance, support and appear to be keen to match their candidates to careers which will reflect their skills base. They're a very welcome change to some recruitment agencies I've had to deal with.
