I stayed at the Kendall Hotel when I went, it's in Cambridge right by MIT with a subway station nearby.
Would stay there again too if I ever go back to Boston.

XV Beacon - stayed there a while back, must admit I'm not a fan - the whole place, while very 'designer' was depressingly dingy and also there's a diner opposite which gets its bins collected around 5am with a shed load of noise.

The house car was a great perk though to get dropped off at various restaurants for dinner and the location was great for the Freedom Trail/Common, its a fair chunk more expensive. Overall I prefer Nine Zero.

As a left field choice (if you don't want the full hotel experience) - There's also a brilliant apartment hotel on St Botolph: http://www.innatstbotolph.com/) - it's in the same chain as XV Beacon so the rooms are nicely decorated, but more importantly it's nice and light inside. It's in Back Bay just by the Prudential Center. Very handy for the shops and also the T.

Good choice OP - the OH and I went to Boston in September 2010. Great city.

The OH stayed at the Royal Sonesta when she was back there on business three months later. Nice view if you get a room on the right side of the building - She sent me a photo to enjoy while I sat at my desk back in the UK...
