Clip-in Cleats

Is there an international standard for cleats?

I had an Orange Crush stolen during the summer (grrrr) that had clip-ins (not well known brand ones), and I still have the shoes and said cleats. Their rusted into the shoes, so I can't remove them.

Basically I want to buy new pedals without having to buy new shoes as well.

Is there not a small plate inside the shoe that they screw into. Just need to drill the heads off the old allen headed screws from the bottom and then fit new ones.

If they're SPDs then I think they're pretty much standard..... it's when you get into the realms of road pedal cleats they tend to be bespoke aren't they?

As for fining it out, take your shoe (with cleat) when you go to buy new pedals and see if they work.

Exactly this, there is usually an access panel in the sole on the inside of the shoe, just needs pickling up.

A picture of the cleats would help us be sure as there are a few different standards but most are pattern copies of the shimano design

take shoes to bike shop. Ask if they will fit a spd, they'll probably clip into one to be doubly sure, buy pedals, enjoy!

It's not the clipping in that is always the problem, ritchey cleats (decades ago) used to clip into shimano's but they didn't want to unclip.

well he'll see on that one if he gets his shoes back or if the shop guy comes back from the workshop empty handed and says "do you want the good news or the bad news?"
