So I have just assembled a new computer and wanted to play some games. I like simple games as I'm getting old and wanted to ask for advice.

Games I enjoyed previously have been Unreal, Postal 2, Doom.

New FPS games seem a bit complicated....

Any suggestions! Thank you.

Loads of 'simple' games like
Crysis 1 & 2
Far Cry
Left for dead 2

Some of the 'complicated' FPSs like Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim are well worth the effort, though.

Thank you.

Downloading Far Cry 3 from Steam. Looks impressive, lets see how complicated it is smile

Edit: Wow, stressing my Fibre connection for once, downloading at 8.7MB/s

I'm very bad at this. Still trying to get past the first (training I guess!) section in Far Cry 3.

dishonoured is def not 'simple' game to play.

you have to think quite hard if you actually want to go in guns ablazing, and die, or go sneakysneaky like, an chuck grenades at guards from the rooftops and then pick them off one by one.

putting it like that, it doesnt sound that hard, just do the sneaky bit, but its not that easy.

Borderlands 2 - Cracking yet simple game with a huge amount to do and a an old school "doesn't take itself too seriously" feel to it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Aliens : Colonial Marines - Not out till next month but looks like it will be a case of "if it moves, kill it"

Battlefield 3 - The single player campaign isn't great but without a doubt the best multiplayer FPS available IMHO and has a very active community on PH to join in with.

Portal 2 is very good. It is first person, but is more of a puzzle game where you have to work out how to get out of the room you are in by manipulating the environment. It's simple to play but you can take your time with it.

BF3 is pretty simple. Run around, shoot people. When you get bored, drive around, run people over. Or zap people with shock paddles. Or stab them in the chest. Or drive a bot over their heads. Or crash your plane into them. nuts

Simple but horrifyingly addictive (Not an FPS I grant you): FTL http://www.ftlgame.com/

Very simple if not all that great: Duke Nukem Forever

Simple and incredible story telling: The walking Dead

All the Half-Life games if you've not yet played them

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Dead Island

Dead Space (1&2)

Battlefield Bad Company

Not Borderlands 2, by far one of the worst most annoying games I have played in years and the graphics are just horrible

if your're relatively new to FPS give uncharted2 or 3 a try.

they're not that difficult and on Uc2 the multiplayer is pretty weak, but is much better on Uc3...

gameplay and environemts are good and there is a mix of problem solving, treasure hunting and roaming (whilst still fairly linear)

more challenging are free roaming games like Assassins Creed - for a not too expensive version try AC2 brotherhood, great story, free roaming and geat environments.

good luck
