WTB E39 M5?- Anyone with itchy feet?
Discussion
Hi All
V Long time lurker here, living in the south east, big into all things speed related, particularly bikes and am wondering whether there are any peeps out there with a E39 M5 that they may be pondering a sale of but cant be arsed with a legion of test pilots coming over etc etc and maybe tempted to sell to a fellow M5 enthusiast.
I previously owned a carbon black 02 between 04-08 (made way for children and other priorities) and now wish to return to the fold. I have approx £10k to spend and am looking for a cherished facelift model in metallic (the dream would be silverstone or bluewater with heritage leather but that is being too prescriptive!) with satnav, a full SH and less than 80k on the clock.
Any steers re particularly nice cars etc would be gratefully received.
I hope I have not committed any faux paus re the above, but if I have be gentle!
Thanks guys

Seen the Carbon Black one in the classifieds? Looks very nice although no mention of S/H in the ad, might be worth a call.

Yes looked at this one- no SH at all before current owner which means 50k of the 90k unaccounted for. I do struggle to understand how that could happen, particularly as at that time the car would have been 4-5 years old and worth about £20k. Seller hasn't really explained this. Theories?
There is a chance that it spent some of it's life as a BMW demo car with that reg. You could try calling the BMW hotline to see if they have any info on it (it's a bit pricey calling them but doesn't take that long). If you give them the reg/vin they should be able to tell you what they have. Normally stuff like this tends to stay in the dealer network for the first few years of it's life so I'd say there was a pretty good chance of tracing it as long as it has been serviced.
Thanks for the response Chris. My question is how/why did the SH become detached/lost as that must hurt a cars value and if it did happen, even the laziest owner could normally recover most of it from their dealer surely? Doesn't this suggest a insurance companies involvement following the usual variety of scenarios? Maybe its just me and I have trust issues
Previous history could just have been lost during house move etc? I agree with post above though that the majority of people don't realise you can ask the dealer network for replacements.
I also agree to buy on condition rather than mileage with older M-cars. I would also rather have history completed by a decent indy than BMW themselves if I'm honest.
