As title, Mrs Saleen has been looking t the above to replace her MX5 (not willingly) as the commute to work is just over 2 hours via train or an hour by car, as much as she likes her mx5 35 mpg and just under 80 miles each day being clocked up will take it's toll on the low mileage mx5.
Anyone have the above Fiesta? what are they like to live with day to day? apart from the £30 a year road tax do they honestly return between 50-60mpg?

Thanks

My Mrs has recently traded in her 56 plate Zetec S TDCI for a new Fiesta Titanium TDCI. She bought the Zetec S new, did 70,000 miles and averaged around 60mpg. Very reliable and great to drive, if a little harsh compared to her new Titanium. The only ting we had to replace was a set of glow plugs a few months before trading it in.

Overall fantastic car, I'd have another with no hesitation.

I had one for about three years bought it at 12 months old with 8k on and put around 50,000 miles on it in the time I owned it (mainly in the first 2 years).

They don't ride too well over anything but smooth surfaces (even motorways get tiring), but the handling is pretty good and its powerful enough, I think I averaged mid 50s MPG over its life, in town 40-45 was as low as things ever got, on a run 55-60 was easy at legal speeds and in heavy traffic at 50-60mph for a period of time it would crack the 70 barrier.

Not sure how one of that age would fair for reliability but its a very common engine (PSA, and shared with other fords, citroen, peugeot and Mini in the same and more powerful forms), mine needed nothing but routine servicing and tyres in the time I owned it and didn't break down once.

Though unless your OH is intent on the sporty looks I'd suggest finding the 1.6tdci engine in a Zetec spec fiesta which has as many toys, more compliant suspension, still handles well and won't carry the same premium in price the 'sporty' model will.

As said get just a normal Fiesta with the 1.6,TDCI in it, step daughter has an 07 plate one with all the bits on, in her 3 years on ownership bar servicing, themostate housing split is the only problem.

Bit of a Fiesta family really, my work duties are done by an 08 plate 1.4,TDCI, bought solely as at the time was doing a 60 mile round trip. But now a job change means im only doing 25 mile round trip. Bought with 11k miles on and now on 45k its had again bar servicing, a rear wheel bearing, (warranty) and glow plugs and glow plugs relay.

18 months ago Mrs400 wanted a new car so we bought a 59 plate new shape Zetec S Fiesta TDCI, and in 20 thousand miles its been serviced and had tyres put on it.
