3000M engine noise n stuff
Discussion
Hi all
I'm off to drive a 3000m later today and was looking for some advice regarding engine noise.
The current owner has spent a fortune and has a huge list of stuff that's been done/changed/recon including the engine however when he started it it sounded very tappety which didn't die down once warm...is this normal for an Essex engine or will it potentially need a bit of work?
Also the diff seemed to be weeping fluid, is it a big job to do seals etc?
Cheers

The tappety noise could be the tappets need adjusting especially if the rockers are a bit worn which makes adjusting them more difficult.
The leaking diff. could be down to the breather being blocked.
I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will be along soon with some better suggestions.

Nope haven't bought one, i went to look at one which is advertised on the tvrcc site and still trying to decide if its what I want.
In fairness to the car it's superb and a credit to its owner who has rebuilt everything, the chassis is immaculate and if you're after a 3000m you'd be mad not to get it.
All the advice has been great its just I might miss the performance of a more modern tiv also I'm not sure i suited the driving position and it's probably too nice for me to do what I want with it I.e. some light Motorsport.
Cheers
