Leather Seat Refurbishment

Hello all,

My R107 SL500 is in nead of a seat refurbishment, can anyone recommend an upholsterer in the midlands/north notts/s yorks area?

Why does it need re-upholstering? If it is just the leather drying and cracking I had very good results in the past with a feed/dye kit. If it's more extensive, best of luck it won't be cheap.

Thanks Spoodler, I will give that a go first. The leather isn't actually worn too badly but it does have a couple of large-ish (maybe 4") splits in the drivers seat, although these may be repairable.

Is there a 'Furniture Clinic' outlet near you. In addition to repairing saggy leather sofas, they do a cracking job on car interiors. This was the state of the seats from my Maserati after 40 years of Italian backsides and being bleached by the sunshine:-





The Gateshead branch did some repairs where the leather was split, replacing some flutes in the rear seat base, then re-coloured the whole interior back to the original tan colour. They were able to mix the applied finish to match a sample taken from under the rear arm-rest, and I was very pleased with the results to say the least. A fraction of the cost of a full re-trim and it keeps the original thick leather.

The way I see it is this: if you're prepared to pay it really doesn't matter what state they're in. So... Take out a seat/squab/door cars etc and have a crack yourself in the comfort of your own home.

If it doesn't work out then you've not lost anything. If it does then you win.

Thanks Surveyor. Joy of joys there is a furniture clinic less than 10 miles from my office. The result on your Mazzer seats is incredible.
