IIRC Martin Leach signed his own death certificate with the Focus RS Mk1. It was a commercial disaster.

Thank god Mr Mullally has turned things around. 10 years ago it was depressing...

Although I read recently that despite not going cap in hand to Congress, Ford are arguably less well placed than their bankrupted and restructured rivals at this point, as they had to seek finance from private institutions leaving them more heavily indebted than the companies which shut and re-opened relatively debt-free.

I worked in a senior position at Ford at that time, and interacted with both gentlemen on a regular basis.

Unfortunatley the quality of 'management' at Ford at that time was in my opinion very badly lacking, and it was a very uncomfortable place to work. I quickly escaped the endless politics, inertia, inneptitude, and myopia thank goodness.

I'm really pleased to see how Mr Mullaly has turned things around, as despite my time there, I still have much affection for the Blue Oval.

This is a good read, not that I'm Alan's PR man! Seems he saw the management problems straight away. Pity Leach went....not that I'm his PR man either....

a great book because it shows the economic environmental factors that Mullally, and credits many colleagues too.

Sheds a much needed light on some of the Ford veterans though...

If we are talking good books, cars and the management of saving companies, this is a good read....

Got that - a very good read. I think I dropped alot of the content from that book into my dissertation last year.

Also, this made up the majority of knowledge for the dissertation:
