Battery conditioners

Being of a lazy disposition, these latest conditioners which simply plug into the cigar lighter socket appeal. But, and here's the rub, does anyone know of one that will work on a positive earth car?

I'd have thought you could swap the wires to the plug easy enough?

Or get the optimate style & wire it up to suit off the battery.

Surely you could change polarity to suit, and label it up!!

I am about the start using this one as mine now live above ground in a garage, so is much colder than before in the condo car park...it connects direct to the battery via a clip connector(I don't have a cigarette lighter!

Change the wiring at the car end so you get the correct household polarity going in, the reduced voltage coming out, and just going to the "wrong" pins in the cigar-lighter plug.

Put a label on it in case someone ever borrows it for their Neg-earth car - I don't know WHAT harm it might do but I'm sure it would not be good!

Tony, just buy an Optimate and cut the lead (12v side obviously ) and reverse the wires round and tape it up with a bit of insulating tape. The Optimates have a protection in their circuits to warn you if you get the polarity wrong so you can't do any harm. Easy peasy...

Nothing in particular to add for the OP except that I purchased a Honda charger/compensator. More expensive than some other makes perhaps at 40 quid. However it did manage to recover our lads race motorcycle battery (300 quids worth) from a heavily discharged state. That is something the other brand failed to achieve.
I have now fitted the flying leads from the battery of my Vauxhall which terminate with a socket near the gearstick. Saves me having to lift the floorboards to find the battery.
