Audi Piloted Parking. No it isn't April 1st.

Shown at the CES tech show.
This is taking the self parking car to levels of witchcraft/fakery . Drive up to the multi storey car park, get out, open the car app on the phone and tell it to park somewhere, the car drives around the car park to a space and parks itself. When you're done, call the car back with your phone, it starts up and drives outside again.
It's fitted to an A7, there are no signs of any extra sensors on the car, it doesn't look like the automated cars Google etc are testing, it doesn't look like KITT, but it can drive itself around a car park. I've checked, it isn't April 1st yet...

"Well, yes. I AM the registered keeper, but there was no driver to enter into a contract with you for parking, you see. Sorry about the broken barriers, too."
"Sorry it repeatedly drove over your legs, but as you can see I wasn't driving so it's not my fault. Now valet your blood off my car".C
I bet if you took it to any multistorey in Britain one, or all or the following would happen:
Kerb wheels on the up/down ramps
Ground out on the up/down ramps
Drag a sill over the very high kerbs on the up/down ramps
Drag a door along a pillar/wall
Anyway you'd have to return to the car to put the ticket in the barrier
I think Audi's money is better spent on some less boring and more model-specific design cues.

I saw the video yesterday. I was impressed.
That said, it's just another step towards a driverless motoring future. See iRobot for more details.

It's best not to watch old Knight Riders, they will only massively disappoint.
