ay up everyone!

have purchased a 2005 seat leon 2.0T petrol recently and will be looking at getting some oil for top ups.

the grade i need is 5w30 fully synthetic for VAG engines

I have found in the store room a bottle of castrol magnatec 5w30
designed for ford engines. there is about 500ml left but it i dont it to go to waste.

is this ok to put in my car or will it cause any damage?

IIRC VAG engines can be pretty choosy. I think "oilman" from Opie Oils is the chap you need to talk to - he'll probably be along shortly.

The oil should meet the VW504.00 / VW505.00.00 specs which I believe Castrol Magnatec, doesn't meet.

Any oil that meets this spec. will do and most oil manufacturers supply one. If you want to stick with Castrol, as used in the factory, you want Castrol Edge 5w30. You can pick it up relatively cheap at Asda.

the castrol magnatec for ford engines is normally A1 or C1, it's probably the wrong stuff, might not even be fully synthetic

Are Halfords still doing their oil on offer (4L for £10)?

Never seen Edge at my local ASDA, only GTX and GTX Magnatec. There was a period when the GTX was on offer for £10 but hasn't been that was for a while. Iirc, GTX is £20 and Maganatec £26.
