Flights to Vegas - BA or Virgin?
Discussion
I'd always go Virgin over BA personally, not that I've found BA bad as such, just that Virgin staff just seem more friendly and less 'business-like'.
I've not flown Virgin a lot, but been to San Francisco with them a few times when I worked for a company with an office there and more recently to Havana and every time I would say it's been good.

There's not much difference in their economy products. VS Premium Economy seats are a little wider than BA's WTP. Up front, I prefer Upper Class to Club World.
T5 is much better than T3, so that leans towards BA, but if I were flying economy and VS were significantly cheaper, I would book with them.
VS cabin crew are younger, blonder, prettier and less competent, in my experience

Thanks for all the input so far guys.
Just reading around - it seems there is a lot of complaints re. the Virgin service to Las Vegas specifically - seems that the planes are older (747 i think?), in flight entertainment isn't as good and the booze always seems to run out about four hours into the flight!
Any of you flown this route specifically, either with BA or Virgin?

We flew Virgin Heathrow>SFO and then back from Vegas last year. The flight home was on a tired 747 whereas flight out was on a nice refurbed one. AFAIK Virgin were upgrading the fleet all last year and Gatwick/Vegas planes were the last to be done. Never flown BA other than Europe so can't comment on difference.
BA seem to have got religion latlely. I would probably choose them over Virgin atm, plus I like the architecture at T5. Nothing against Virgin, used them a few times to NY and they were fine, better than a lot, I would rather swim than use Continental again, if they are still in business.

Yeah it seem they are still using the tired 747 - wonder when this will be updated.Jury is still out between the two - as its for a honeymoon would I be better going Virgin in case of strikes? Also, who is easier to blag an upgrade from??

I flew with Virgin for my honeymoon. I'm a frequent flyer card holder as is my wife. Our flight was 50% full. We got offered an upgrade to Premium Economy. At the full price and with no leeway whatsoever. Don't expect an upgrade from Virgin...Jury is still out between the two - as its for a honeymoon would I be better going Virgin in case of strikes? Done Gatwick to Mcarran with virgin they were spot on and definitely did not run out of anything. Plane was fine. BA to Miami was a shocker.
The problem with BA to Miami is that it's a flying coffin. Chock full of very elderly customers demanding a lot of attention. Speaking to the cabin crew they told me the route is almost always full.Flown economy with Virgin the last two year to Vegas (honeymoon and honeymoon anniversary). We're going again this year and will fly Virgin again. Found them to be very good. I don't personally think the Premium Economy are worth it. Check in online and select seats at back of the plane against windows rather than seating down the middle of the plane. A bit more shoulder room and ample leg room.
British Airways every time for me in Economy.
Virgin aircraft are all being updated so you don't run the risk of being on one of the old Alitalia 747s with the crap cabin and prehistoric entertainment system.
If flying economy it would have to be BA just for the fact you use T5 over T3.
If you are booking based on "will they strike" then you are clearly too worrisome to leave the country
Virgin owned by Delta now too, so what will happen to service levels...?!?!?

Those two seats at the back suffer from traffic and muppets standing chatting - useless on a night flight.BA and Virgin are very expensive. I fly to San Francisco and then back on an internal flight with United Airlines. Business class to and from SF and 1st Class internal...£1800..economy was under £600......Virgin wanted £4000 for 1st and around a £1000 economy. I do this route 5 or 6 times a year and i prefer this route. If you can afford it go Business with United. Their private lounge is really nice at LHR and SF is really good with lovely showers etc etc. A quiet place away from all the noise. Just checked Virgin..August 3rd to the 24th August £1919 return each person economy. United Airlines Via SF economy £856 return person
