Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on airbags on a 996 as both the steering wheel and dashboard have gone off. I've safely removed the old one's and have found replacements but I wasn't sure about reinstalling them. Easy to put them back in to place but wasn't sure if I reconnected them and reconnected the battery, they could go off again. My question is if there is a sensor on the front of the car I need to replace or reset before connecting the battery to stop them from deploying again? Any good advice would be appreciated and also if I need to do anything with seatbelt tensioners etc.

Many thanks...

Shouldn't be any risk in connecting the airbags, standard advice is to do any work on airbags with the battery first disconnected for at least 30 mins but generally nobody bothers.

The seatbelt pretensioners are very likely to need replacing if both front airbags have gone off, the light will need clearing or on some cars the crash data will need clearing from the ecu (or ecu may need replacing).

You may need to replace the air bag ecu as well as they can store a permanent fault code if triggered on most cars. Its good practise to replace the crash sensor that was triggered also.

Thank all... That will keep me busy this afternoon. Yes getting the tub sorted at the mo and wasn't as expensive to do as first indicated by the ph's so good advice on the replacement parts!! Not much more to find now for the car only the drivers side radiator pack, then she'll be out on the road!! Thanks again all for the great advise...
