Black Ceramic Paint For Exhaust

I've been thinking for a while that i love the look of shiny polished exhausts but IMO i think they are hard to keep that way. At work we have Harley Davidsons, they have a satin look to the exhausts. I asked a tech today and he told me they use ceramic paint as its heat resistant.

I once used BBQ paint on my exhaust/manifold on my Honda VFR, it peeled within a week due to heat.

Any one have any experiences painting exhausts?

Whats peoples thoughts on black exhausts anyway?

The Rust-Oleum stuff is heat resistant, well it blooming well should be if it's application is for wood burning fires and stoves

I've been happy with the above stuff on my heatshield over the last 6-9mths.

If you do use this stuff, make sure you use the Primer.

In the case of the k-series it was highlighted to me that by ceramic coating the exhaust the heat is retained in the head. Whether this is true or not I don't know and I may be talking rubbish. I have a zircotec coated exhaust on my LS7 V8 Ultima and I believe that reduces engine bay temperatures more than anything else and works brilliantly, although expensive.

Thanks for your comments chaps, if you dont mind me asking what did it roughly cost you for zircotec on your exhaust? I only going to paint what you can see from the outside, im not touching the manifold itself

Best to contact Zircotec direct with a photo, they have good customer service. If its only the section that can be seen then not very much. For a V8 nearer 1k!
