Hi,

Just finished drilling each linkage and corresponding "U" joint and installing some roll pins to the gear linkage. I reversed the last linkage to the gearbox - i.e. I installed the threaded adjustable joint on the selector end rather than at the second last joint.

I note that the factory diagram shows the threaded portion at the second last joint however the pictures in the new factory manual for a centre mount shift shows the threaded end at the selector end.

I thought I would consult the wisdom of the list before I pound in the remaining roll pins.

Also - what is the length of the rod travel from neutral in both directions for gear selection for a G50 tranny?

I will be drilling and installing the carrier bracket for the rose joint on the chassis (below the oil pan) and would like to position it so that there is maximum unencumbered travel. Do I just position the rose joint equidistantly (in the centre of the rod) while the gear shift lever is in the upright neutral position?

Hi Ikom,
I installed my threaded end on the selector shaft bracket. I've never seen it installed at the last rose joint location as you describe. For me, it is helpfull, b/c you can rotate the bracket for the selector a turn or two at the back of the car to adjust the travel and distance from the rose joints(on each U joint). Also, remember to install that last rod above the driveshaft if possible. Mark let me on to that secret and my gearchanges are much more accurate and smooth now that I've done this. Run the last rod as high as possible without getting too close to the headers.
Position the shift rod in the cockpit straight up with top rose joint spaced a bit from the center bracket and then at the back of the G50, place it in neutral, and screw in the threaded rod until it can push onto the selector shaft and bolt into position. I didn't measure the throw, but you should be able to get it down pretty quickly. You'll need to check the clearance between the U joint and the rose joint. This can be adjusted by both the rose joint in the cockpit(that spaces the vertical rod) and also can be adjusted at the threaded rod. Remember to tighten the locknut. I can't imagine having to get under the car to adjust that threaded rod. I'd put the threaded rod at the selector shaft end to make it easier to adjust.

p.s.Try to place that last rose joint bracket on the engine adapter plate. The easy way is to get a piece of angle iron and use the adapter plate mounting bolts to attach the angle bracket. You can then drill a hole into the angle for the rose joint. I think I just used a 1" x 1" by 1/8" thick piece of aluminum angle for this job and it has held up well so far. Place it so that it is equal distance between the U joint and the rod. You can even use a spacer between the angle bracket and the adapter plate if you need to. Don't worry about the large angle at the last rose joint. As cukie as it sounds, it is more important for the last rod to be as inline as possible with the straight selector shaft coming out the back of the G50 than it is to have a large angle at that last rose joint. Strange...I know...

Ikom - sorry to edit your post but, the exploded view that you were referring to, is in the G50 right hand gear change section, not the centre change section which has the correct orientation for the gearchange adjuster in the correct place for a centre change.

If that makes sense!

Also, please respect Ultima design copyright and refrain from posting technical drawings on a public forum

Ikom,
I asked about the linkage linear travel several months ago when I made my linkage. The answers I got were 30MM of travel on the selector shaft for a G50.
