Hi folks,
I have a Griff 500 with two problems both probably covered before..

(1) When i fill up with fuel on removing the petrol cap there seems to be an almighty vacuum which sucks air into the filler neck. Have changed cap to the Leven one to try to erradicate but still persists.
Could the breather hose be blocked...? What do i look for..?

(2) My main beam fuse has blown which makes driving at night pretty hairy especially as I live in the sticks where there is little street lighting if any.....!
What size fuse do I need...? Can I pick a new one up from my local Chavshop or Halfwits...?

Many Thanks.

Q1. Yes

Q2 - the fuse diagram for your car will be in your owner's handbook - p28 in mine. Main beam on mine's No 20 and is 15a. Best to take it out and replace with like for like though.

Why didn't I think of that, and me being an electrician as well....!
Ok.. Say the breather hose IS blocked could this have any effect on the cars performance or running...?

Thanks.

Hi.

Nope - not the usual flippery...

1. On cat versions of the grif the air vent located in the filler cap isn't used, it's vented via a charcoal filled carbon box (purge tank) that prevents petrol fumes escaping - but it shouldn't be anything to worry about... unless you feel the need to replace it!!! (good luck).
The fuel tank is vented every now and again when the engine is running - i.e. air is sucked into the box therefore purging the charcoal of petrol. There's a valve in the box that deals with this venting, this valve also controls the pressure inside the fuel tank which should hopefully stop petrol and vapour escaping - hence the hissing sound when you open the filler cap. In my case, it sounded like the tank buckled every time I filled up...
If you feel like there's a real problem it's likely to be bad electrical connection to said valve, or liquid in the box causing a gas trap.
I wouldn't do it on my own... It's a right bitch.

2. Griff 500 main beam fuse:

Fuse located second from the right as you look at the fuses on the panel - 15A.
There's also a main beam Relay, this is the plastic box bottom right above the row of fuses - give this a wobble...

What was your problem with the lights - there's a relay and fuse for Dipped and relay and fuse for main...?

Cheers Scruffy,

I am having that problem too, after a short run when I return to car and start up I can hear a banging noise from the tank as if its buckling as you said.
Sometimes while driving along there is a whirring sound which I'd imagine is the fuel pump.

Have just been to re-fuel and nearly could'nt get the bloody fuel cap off there was so much suction, can't be right surely....!
Have removed the rubber insert in the Leven filler cap as Rudegirl suggested and car seems to running a lot smoother(or just my imagination).
Thanks.

So I did I, when I got my interior re-trimmed I searched everywhere for examples to copy (as mine was biscuit 1/2 leather - very plain).

Looking through peoples profiles I came upon 'Rude Girls' pics and gave them to trimmer to copy......I'm well pleased.

Half turn the filler cap instead of locking it down,
no petrol will spill and the problem is solved.
