After the power steering pump went on my Alfa, I had to drive the 7 to work last night.

Only before leaving, I forgot to do the bonnet catches back up after untucking the cover.

I nailed it at a set of lights, to see my bonnet flying over the top of me!! (lucky no one way behind!)

As you can see I think I need a new bonnet frown

Anyone else done anything silly like this?

Back in 2003, I had my lovely Ardent red Elise S2 on my driveway behind my brothers car. My brother needed to leave for work and asked me to move my car out of the way. I did so and opened the window so I could use the mirrors without having to try and look through ice. I then moved my car to where his was and got out. Deciding that as I was going to work in about 10 minutes anyway, I'd just leave the engine running to defrost the car. I reached through the open window, slotted the key into the ignition and turned it. The handbrake on the Elise was rubbish so I always just left it in 1st gear when parked on the driveway.

You've probably already figured out where this is leading.

Needless to say, the Elise launched itself forward and proceeded to drive through my garage door before coming to rest on a pillar inside the garage and stalling. £1,200 worth of damage achieved in about three seconds and I wasn't even in the car at the time. Beat that.

Erm, not me, but someone tried to rest the tripometer & turned the steering wheel. Fortunately no damage done!

Showing off to my little brother shortly after passing my test I decided to stop the engine of the car and remove the keys and wave them in his face, all whilst driving along at 60 mph.

Little did I know that removing the keys would lock the steering wheel, which gave me a bit of a shock as we approached a bend in the road.

Managed to get the keys back in and the engine started but that was probably the stupidest thing I have done whilst driving. .

I did one reach through the steering wheel to reset my trip counter whilst pulling out of the petrol station just as the car started to straighten itself up - I won't be making that mistake again!

Though I won't mention any names...

My big brother did the same thing with me as a passenger in my Mum's mk1 Fiesta. There as a steep hill with a bend at the bottom and my brother thought it would be a great idea to turn the engine off and free wheel down. The steering lock came on as we turned the bend, we hit the bank on the other side of the road and rolled the car, skidding down the road on the roof. Trying to explain what happened to our parents was hilarious. What a tit!

Did that on my Westfield. Luckily only one side was undone and it only lifted ominously before flopping back down. Other Westfield owners have done the 'proper' job like you though.

A few months ago I was fiddling with the roof to try and sort out some leaks - I'd previously purchased some slightly different parts which would hold the panel down tighter, when I had a similar situation with my other MR2.

Since that one is marooned on the drive with a dead engine, I decided to just swap the roof panels around - but I take the covers off so that I could adjust them easily if they proved to need adjustment.

Cut to the next evening, I decide to take the long route back from a local supermarket, which involves a NSL area. I booted it coming off of a roundabout, and at around 60mph I thought to myself 'Hmm... there's rather more wind noise than usual coming from the passenger side'.

I looked up and left, to see my carefully adjusted roof slowly lift into the air, and then suddenly disappear. Fortunately there was nobody close behind me, and because the visibility was good on the road I was able to return, get the adjustment parts, and sweep the glass from my now extinct roof panel out of the road.

Haha, I was a passenger when someone did this. Ripped his indicator stalk clean off and nearly hit a car in the car park we were leaving.

Friend of mine did something very similar in his in gear S2 Elise a few years back. Was in his garage with roof off. He "tried the starter" to see if battery was ok.... It was.... He was standing next to the car at the time... It jumped forward and a wooden deck chair leg punched a perfect hole in the front clam... Ouch!
