So many cars with defective lights!
Discussion
Whether its the nights drawn in and dark mornings, but it seems like about 20percent of cars I come across in the hours of darkness have some sort of defective lights, headlights most commonly.
It occurred to me, (after noting my 55 plate polo drivers side headlight gone, and needing to remove fuel filter, dropping mounting bolts inside the inner wing in the process, and an hour fading about to complete the job), that many drivers know they have a dodgy light, but instead of picking up a bulb and sticking it in at the petrol station, like we did in the 80 s and 90s, they cannot be arsed or dont have time to book it in at a dealership or garage to get the work done. Modern cars seem to be designed with things like access to bulbs being an afterthought. Or is it a cynical attempt by the manufacturers to get more work for their dealerships? Some cars need their bumpers removing ffs.
Seems weird that in a time of ESP, abs, tyre pressure monitors and oil level checking (many modern audis don't have dipsticks), all of which are safety related and taking the basics of car inspection away from the driver, designing a car that can't have a bulb replaced in 5 men's at the roadside is a significant safety b
k dropped, and surely contributes to cars being driven with lamps note working 100 pc.
Yes, we all know it is illegal, but I've seen one car on my commute with one of headlamp gone, the ns sidelight gone and so fog gone ( as he has them all on presumably to see where the f
k he is going) since late October!
Eu would do well to get all the legislation on new pointless systems on the back burner, and pass leg to make manufacturers design cars that allow bulbs to be changed with nil or minimal tools ( held inboard) within 5 minutes by a competent novice.
All IMO of course!

I started a similar thread a while ago.
I also had a `55 plate Polo at the time.
It seems to be the way it`s going sadly, engine out job to change a bulb
Madness, isn't it? Surely they can design a light unit that could get access through the top of it to get to a bulb? I also had a `55 plate Polo at the time.

In France, we all need bulb kits to drive there, but would have not a hope in hell's chance of ever replacing on on a typical modern car.
