ford warranty and servicing, engine blown
Discussion
Ive just had an engine failure on my 8.5k mile 14 month old transit van, van was due its first service in november but ive not had chance to get it in yet.
The service schedule is every 20k or 12 months
Reason for post is what the mechanic said off the cuff regarding ford often trying not to honour the warranty on vans not serviced at correct intervals.
Anyone had any experience with ford with this issue, surely if they dont honour a warranty on something like this its a 'product not fit for its intended purpose' matter ?
Nothing has been said yet but just preparing myself for a hearty row with the service dept.
Any usefull input appreciated
Cheers Mart

what he said, i think it would depend on the type/cause of failureoil gone due to not checking - then I think you will have to suck it
if mechanical failure lead to sudden loss of oil or engine mechanical fault then they may try it on, stick to your guns .

If someone makes and sells something, and tells the buyer that it will need a service at a given period/mileage, but the buyer ignores that and the item breaks, I'd say all bets are off re warranty.
If Ford do anything for you it will be down to goodwill, so you need to ask nicely and not demand, and you should then be grateful for any contribution they offer.

these engines can go 20k between service, this ones done 8.5k, surely they done just pack up because service is 2 month late.
Low mileage can mean more wear and tear due to only being used for short journeys.A higher mileage vehicle would be less stressed if used on motorway type journeys.
As you have broken the terms of the warranty you may struggle to get any help from the manufacturer.

Certainly not due to not checking the oil, ive just not had it in for its service, no argument there, but my argument is going to be that these engines can go 20k between service, this ones done 8.5k, surely they done just pack up because service is 2 month late.
I suspect a lot of it will come down to goodwill. I've no idea what the service schedule for your van is, but I'd be amazed if the first service included anything more than an oil change and some basic visual checks - so it comes down to exactly what the nature of the failure is and what Ford say has caused it.I'm sure you'll get a mixture of opinions on whether to be contrite and humble or to shout and scream
