I've got a 2007 DB9 with a wonky satnav. When I ignore the satnav instructions the clock in the top right-hand corner tries to replot a route but the satnav thinks I'm somewhere else. For example I went from London to Bolton yesterday and the satnav wanted me to take the M6 but I was going to take the M6 toll road. After the satnav tried to replot the route it couldn't pick up my location.

I went into the 'secret menu' today to see what I could find out. The satnav settings showed the latitude and longitude that I was in London, however when you go back to the main screen, it thinks I'm in Hereford! I have updated the dvd disk to 2012, but was wondering if my satnav aerial may be at fault and need changing. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The aerial tuning unit failed in my DB9 two years ago. Symptoms - Satnav and gsm phone both completely dead.

Thanks for the serious reply. The satnav works perfectly well until I ignore it's instructions, and phone works too, so I can only guess the disk is faulty.

Aston Man. Been there, I did this ....... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... .......and my SatNav is perfect now.

How old is your car? This is an important question as the Satnav is as old as your car, I know that sounds stupid, but let me clarify ...... when you turn your ignition on, your engine starts and so does your satnav. So just because you don't turn the satnav on, does not mean that it does not work, it is working, so for every minute your engine is running, your satnav is spinning and running, working out where you are all the time.

The head unit is mearly a screen, the disc should be fine (have a look), problem will be in the main unit in the boot, the ariel is a tiny thing with no moving parts (its a Jaguar unit) (Jag ariel, Mitsubishi main unit) I can go into symptoms, but I'm off to bed. See how you get on ............ smile

Thanks MaverickV12, replacing the whole satnav unit looks to be beyond my limited diy skills. Any ideas on where I could get a new unit fitted in the London area thats not a Aston main dealer?

Relax, relax, relax, when I contacted AM for them to sort out my SatNav, they quoted £3,000.00 plus vat, (so for me £3,600.00) to be honest I couldn't be ar5ed to wait to see what that entailed, AM being AM, I think it included coffee at £1k per cup but I'm not sure. AM won't repair a perfectly good unit, they will only replace.

Think carefully about getting a second hand SatNav unit....... how old is that unit? When will that unit go wrong?

Cost is all about what you want to pay, if you can take it out and send it off it's going to be a few hundred pounds, the additional cost is for people to take it out, everyone gets panicky about the words, "Aston Martin", as soon as you say what car it is, the costs go through the roof. The car is not to be feared laugh

At £3k (plus vat) if you want to pop down to Bristol, I'll charge you nothing, make you coffee, we can take it out, we can drive to the shop that will repair it. (They will take a week), then we can put it back it. Will cost you petrol and time, and a the costs of the actual repair .......

If you think it's the unit, I won't go through the symptoms. smile
