What's your max ever heart rate on bike?
Discussion
The reason I ask is that is that having been out with a mate for several rides recently, nothing more strenuous that a typical winters road bike ride and his HR, according to his Garmin maxed out at 224!
He is convinced that is correct no matter me telling him he would be most likely throwing up if that was the case.
Of course he may just have a freakishly strong heart

I'm not an expert but I would have thought having a heart rate that high is very dangerous. If the reading is correct then a word with his doctor is a good idea.
My HR is quite low. I peaked briefly at 172 on my ride today up the last hill. I did about 5 cat 4 climbs and a fair pace peaking at 165 on the first four. My HR drops quite quickly after the hills to, back down to 110 with a k at the top.

I've had a look at his Strava data and all does appear normal and healthy My HR is quite low. I peaked briefly at 172 on my ride today up the last hill. Although it has registered a peak of 224bpm looking at the continuous data it would appear an anomaly. He however, is convinced it's a genuine reading and appears quite proud of it!
My experience of a genuine maxing out is that your eyeballs should be popping out, his certainly weren't.

210 on a exercise bike during a PT lesson in the RAF, the PTI didn't seem that bothered, so I wasnt!
Good thing that wasn't part of the fitness test!
ked but as long you can get to your required level you are 'fit'. There use to be a bike test and now the rock port walk and that is a much truer test of fitness. How old is he? The younger you are the higher your max HR.
Theoretical max is 220 - your age, but in your early 20s, max HR or 220+ is fairly common for someone fit. When I was rowing at Uni most of the crew were well over 200 during 2k seat races on the Erg - all aged early to mid 20s.

Its all a load of nonsense, its just god given. Theoretical max is 220 - your age, but in your early 20s, max HR or 220+ is fairly common for someone fit. When I was rowing at Uni most of the crew were well over 200 during 2k seat races on the Erg - all aged early to mid 20s.
