Honda S2000 - Winter Mods and Maintenance

I bought a 2005 S2000 with 38k miles back in June. Had a fantastic summer, was great returning to topless motoring. I put a K&N on as soon as I got it and an Alpine XDA 100 headunit. But now winter is here, the mods\tweaks\maintenance has started

As it was before it went up on axle stands back in Nov.





Been busy over the last month or so.

Sneak preview of the retrimmed steering wheel, gear gaiter pictures to follow, brand new with red stitching. New gear knob to go with:




UK Exhaust mod done, using 40mm pipe, 37mm internal, can't wait to hear it. New fixings too.




Eibach springs fitted, shocks painted:


Waxoyl applied to the underside of the car, arches, suspension and underneath bracing. Also painted the brake discs and caliper as they were in a poor state and sprayed the inner wheel arches matt black to freshen them up.









Wheel given a good clean, inside and outside. Centre caps wrapped in carbon vinyl with new logos. Also, being very anal I've sprayed the rusty looking wheel weights.




Key hole covers fitted


All that's left to do is refit the suspension, exhaust and get the front bumper resprayed and rear spoiler fitted:

Very nice, I saw your centre caps on S2KI a couple of days ago, I instantly recognised them. (isn't it a bit sad! )
I have a MY05, I should be thinking about the waxoyl as well!

It's a partial bypass, so some of the airflow bypasses the rear silencers, gives a bit more noise without the droan and very cheap to do It's a very popular mod here in the UK and now the guys across the pond have caught onto it. You can choose the noise level by selecting the diamater of pipe you desire. Youtube it

Nice S! You've done some pretty good mods to it already.
The K&N airfilter makes the engine sound alot meaner!

I own a '00 JDM S2000 Type V in midnight pearl purple by the way, it's a bit more modified though

Yes, increase in noise. Standard system is very quiet.

All of the above sound bloody awful and if they don't make more power then it seems a bit daft, each to their own I guess.

Drive a V8, or an M3, or a sportsbike with an aftermarket can, or a Triumph triple or something like that, then you'll get "it". Noise can be very addictive.

I think how a car sounds really does have a massive impact on how fun it is. I loved my E36 M3 Evos for window down motoring.

Absolutely. I sold my BMW 550i (4.8 V8) E46 M3 to get the S2000 and BMW F11 525d. I really miss having a powerful sounding car, especially on startup, but the S2000 has plenty of other characteristics that go a long way to making up for it

Bloody awful or not is up to the listener, but I think they sound great. However, if you do like the sound of your car, but it's not loud enough for your enjoyment, why not make it louder?

I saw one of these being hammered off the lights the other week, I was walking so heard it as it went past, it sounded bloody good exhaust mod or not.

How do you find the S2000 compared to the E46 M3? Obviously, they're quite different cars, but I've often fancied owning each.

Now the winter is offically over, I thought I'd give an update on the modifications and maintenance done over the winter months. Car is now taxed and ready

just incase the sun decides to make an appearance this summer

Job Completed:


- 54k Major Service including valve clearances by Honda specialist.
- Lowered - Eibach Springs
- Alignment done
- Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) Removed
- Steering Wheel Retrimmed
- New gear gaiter to match
- New Gear Knob
- Rear Speakers & Harness fitted
- Fitted Black Wheel Nuts
- Centre caps warpped in "carbon" with black H
- Throttle Body Clean and new Gasket
- UK Exhaust Mod - 38mm
- Boot Spoiler Fitted
- Underseal applied to the underside, arches and all of the suspension components
- Brakes Painted
- Taller Wind Deflector fitted
- Red Carpet Set
- Removed rear arch Seals (know to contribute to corrosion)
- Painted inner arch liners to freshen them up
- Stubby aerial
- Last but not least, a full detail.

I've ordered some goodies from the US and got plenty more work planned, but still can't decide whether to keep the car of swap it for a Z4M Roadster, a car I've always wanted, but never made the jump. That said, both cars have their pluses and minuses.
