Boot opening solenoid

My boot opening solenoid has burnt itself out! Anyone know what if any car it comes off?
Also could someone e-mail me the secret boot opening method?
And finally could anyone tell me how the solenoid works? It would appear that there are no limit switches on the soleoid unit itself so does it just receive a single pulse when the release button is pressed? If so how does it go back - theres no spring that i can see. Cars a 92 4.3

Thanks Julian and Phil - your help is much appreciated.
What i still do not understand however is this:
Press the button the 12 v motor runs, turns the rack pulls the cable and opens the boot
BUT
What sends it back again?

No problems.

I think it's the spring on the catch itself, the solenoid will move freely backwards and forwards if there's no current. I may be totally wrong, I'm sure somebody like David Beer will explain.
