Don’t think I have ever seen an aviary thread, cage birds yes, but not Aviary, so may be on my own but surely not? Mine was built just over a year ago by a guy who runs his own business down on the south coast. Highly recommended. At the moment keeping Budgies, Cockatiels, Japanese Quail, Chinese Quail, Zebra Finches, Java Sparrows, Canaries and Bengalese finches. Hook bills and finches in separate flights, internal and external, budgies using breeding cages, finches colony breeding.

Long term ambition is large parrots, but worried about the noise and neighbours! Does anyone have experience of keeping larger parrots (probably Macaws or African Greys) in gardens and the level and type of noise they generate? In other words if my neighbours have no issue with the current noise how far am I pushing things with parrots? I think I have understood Greys are about the same noise volume as cockatiels? I'm guessing a lot depends on the particular bird?

Very nice fella. Stunning birds and habitat. Would you mind pinging me the details of the builder as is sounds like he's pretty close to me.

We're in the process of sorting out the garden, and want to make an aviary style extension to the shed for the two rabbits, as at the mo they're in separate hutches. Would like to go full height, and keep some birds as well. Catflap in the shed wall, and big wooden chest inside the shed for rabbit beds.

Are rabbits and small birds compatible? Would be a grass base underlined with weld mesh to prevent the rabbits digging out.

Would have the added benefit of keeping the mother in law away during warmer months as she's phobic of birds and we don't spend much time indoors in decent weather!

Lovely aviary OP

Sway - All I can think is the rabbits might not like being poo'd on/near by a group of birds above

Parrots are astonishingly loud. I had a country place with 56,000 sq ft of garden and you could hear the Amazons from inside the house next door. Not too loudly, but audible. They also tend to scream morning and evening. Not a musical sound. They need a fair bit of space.

Nice pictures.

When I was growing up my parents bred and showed budgies and we had quite a large set up in the garden - over 200 birds. Maybe a little OTT - yours looks much nicer.
My mother always has a talking bird - her current one imitates our dog - copying the barking.

And I always remember the aviaries at Peasholm Park at Scarborough. A shame they are all gone due to yobs.
This sort of public attraction can only work these days where the park gets locked on a night. There is one like this at Bury St Edmonds from memory.

Thank you for the responses.

Yes screeching is definitely the problem, probably my most consistently noisy bird is a grey male canary, but I can’t see anyone complaining at his song. I got him few months ago, I understand that canaries are meant to be quieter in the winter but he is fairly continuous in his singing.

Did some showing of budgies the first time I had birds, but its not really my thing and I don’t agree with what they have done with show birds (eg getting to a size and shape where they are not able to fly properly). Keeping and breeding a variety of birds is what interests me. Over the weekend realised I had my first cockatiel eggs which is very exciting!

There must be more aviaries out there in PH land?!
