Not sure if this is of any use to people but there was a question posed in a national broadsheet last weekend about how to deter mice entering car/garage as the little tinkers had chewed thru this blokes electrics.
I know some of you have been affected by this so thought I'd do this post.
The reply was to sit with a shotgun ... errmmm hang on that's something else
1. Mothballs in a bag and placed in the engine bay - mice don't like the smell.
Obviously, remember to remove before start-up !
2. Peppermint oil - dripped onto a rag and placed under the car or even dripped onto the wiring.
Again mice don't like smell or taste.
3. Humane traps. That way you can catch the mouse alive and then kill it later
No guarantees mind but at least it's worth a try.

They normally go around in threes! (Specially if they're blind!)

I used to use a humane trap but once they've chewed through bits of your P&J you'll relish every single time you pick a half decapitated vermin barsteward out of a trap.

. They do work, we had mice in our garage and they destoyed loads of my fly tying materials, we bought a sonic repeller and no more mice (plus no having to remove half decayed poisoned ones from behind the freezer) and no affect on pets that i know of

You can tune ultrasonic frequencies to the species you are trying to target- and some frequencies are painful to dogs and cats, although they do start to ignore it after a while.
