Bit of Audi help
Discussion
A good friend of mine has a 1.6 Audi a3 on a 58 plate, just before Christmas he was hit from behind resulting in rear end damage, the car was taken to an Audi main dealer and the repairs were carried out, rear bumper, rear bumper brace, tailgate repaired and painted.
Fast forward to today and he calls me saying he has lost fifth gear, the car selects fifth but there is just a slight noise of gears grinding but no drive, it drives in the other gears but the gearbox is noisy.
He only had the car back from the repairers on Saturday and today was the first time he has driven it, do you think this is just a coincidence or a shock from the impact, car has covered 30k miles.
Edit to mention I am a mechanic and the gearbox certainly needs a repair (not linkages etc) but I just have never seen a failure with such low mileage.
Thanks for any help, Carl

Is probably not a coincidence but would need to be looked at anyway.
I knew of a guy who had his A6 crashed into and very nearly written off, it got fixed and the guy got it back. Discovers the gearbox is fked (£7k worth of damage), legal wrangling ensues for months and months as the insurer wanted to repair it further and he wanted it written off. Was only about a year old at the time iirc. Not relevant, just came to mind...
