C107 SLC commercial
Discussion
Such cool cars. I'd love a minter in astral silber with anthracite or blau velours. I'd fit it up with the 5.6litre V8, some rare 15" bundt rims from the 6.9 and a perfect sound system. Then I'd don big shades and a tan lounge suit with broad lapels and cruise around without a seatbelt, maybe with a glass of wine, like it was 1979. I suspect the 1970s will come to be seen as the very height of our civilisation albeit the rot set in when the French imposed speedlimits of the autoroutes in 76. These days the only places people drive to are the shops, the office or (yawn) a track day.

I guess a E24 6-series would be in with a shout? Not any better ( or should I say worse?) rustwise..
In with a shout, definitely. When I was at college in Cambridge in the early 1990s, a young family used to dine at a restaurant near my rooms on Trumpington Street and they drove an achingly beautiful M635 CSi Highline in Nogaro Silver over Silver Grey leather. Even then, the six was an old design, but this was everything I was working for. They were a beautiful family, they looked rich, happy and damn cool. In 1994, for a boy from Newcastle, they might as well have been from a different planet!I've always had an odd hankering for an SLC, they appear to be very much unloved in the classic Mercedes world.
I would happily have one to ferry myself to work and back. I love the idea of dropping in a late 5.6 high output engine into one, I bet it would make it quite an entertaining steer!
