996 Cab's not bought by thrashers?
Discussion
I'm currently shopping for a nice 996 and I've narrowed it down to a C4 Cab or a C4S coupe.I've been a lifelong biker and have had 2 previous soft tops,so the Cab is tempting as I love the nothing above my head style of motoring. However, the aesthetics of the Cab's aren't quite as right as the coupe, so I'm fancying a coupe as well. My brain is telling me that a coupe, being lighter and stiffer, and more driver focussed is more likely to have been bought by the speed merchants and thrashers, and the Cab by a more genteel style of motorist who would waft along with the roof down enjoying the scenery.Am I correct in my thoughts or am I talking complete b*llox.
I don't recall seeing many porsches being driven hard on the roads.
Once a GT2 came past me on the M3 doing literally like 200mph, another time a guy in a turbo with no exhaust came whipping past. Oh and graeme was nipping about fairly in his 993gt2 during our 993/996 gt2 feature for Total911.
That's it, rest of them cruising about with a silver fox trying to look good.

My car must be an interesting mix spec wise based on this as its a C4S cab but with X51 power pack and upgraded Porsche suspension which should imply its perfect for someone who likes to thrash and pose!
I don't thrash but like to make progress so it was an ideal choice for me (its for sale in the classifieds as well by the way!).

No I don't think there is any correlation between cab/coupe and thrashing.
And certainly not a reason to buy one over the other.
I agree. And certainly not a reason to buy one over the other.
The assumption that cab drivers pose and coupe drivers thrash is an old stereotype and not really relevant today. Even if you could identify a few trends from a massive research project, it would still be marginal and certainly not of much use.
As ever, buy on condition.
If your looking for a coupe c4s look for the one in classifieds, there's one in Aberdeen, an absolute gent owns it and I'm sure it was an older lawyer that owned it previously. Only reason I ha vent bought it as chose a 997 instead.
Cars on for 19.5 I think, absolutely mint. Well worth having a look at for a car with a nice history, I'm very nervous of cars histories / owners as nervous of big unexpected bills after buying, but this ticked all the box's and had me very relaxed. gentleman owner, nice car collection, all cars no expense spared and not needing anything spent or unforeseeable future.
Ps I have no affiliation other than very nearly buying, just wanted newer shape.

Hey Baz,
Am just trying to finalise a deal on a car down south and decide that's def the way I wan to go, so hopefully be able to confirm details ASAP but it's prob a boggo standard c2 997. If deal falls through and price could be agreed I may well go for another 996 c4s (the one above).
Really looking forward to getting back out on a run with the troops either way.
Hope you and the family are all in good form mate
Cheers

e is a correlation between beards and thrashing it must be a negative one - I have a huge beard and don't thrash - so thrashers of the worst sort must be clean shaven?

I would have to strongly disagree with that: being half asian I am beardless...I would love to grow one to prove my love of old rustic cars but it aren't happening.
And for whoever saw me driving or knows me, I do not qualify for "thrashing the car around".

I think you need to be more interested in the approach of the owner than the clues you're reading into the body type. Driven hard from cold, or warmed up meticulously and well maintained I'd rank as the key considerations.
As a side note. I don't think the power delivery really lends itself to being thrashed. They are not really rev monsters (unlike the japs and the M cars) and are equally wonderful when driven on the torque and short shifted as they are when being pushed very hard.
