I couldn't find a thread on the new Sim City - apologies if this is a repost.

It's due in March - link - and I loved the old ones. I always wondered whether this game could be revamped for modern computers and graphics.

Looks good, but has anyone seen any more about it than the few screenshots I can find on the web?

With every iteration I found that the more complex it got, the more tedious it got.

SimCity 4 was a step too far for me. Hours of fun to be had with SC2000 (still is, to be honest) but 4 was just too complicated, slow and difficult to build up enough cash to have any fun building stuff. These games should all have a sandbox mode IMHO for those of us who just want to have some fun.

Agreed. It needs to build fast and stay interesting - hopefully using the full power of newer computers will allow for vast, interesting maps and cities.

I got my invite to the beta test on saturday. Installed the 1h demo i have not seen my laptop since. The other half was a big sim city 2000 fan so she has logged most of the hours playing with it. Ill get a chance tonight so ill post up my comments later.

Did anyone else apply to test it?

Yep I in the Beta. Downloaded it last night and the beta is quiet limited. You only get an hour to play. A lot of the features are missing but it looks like a good game. I guess ill put some more time in and see what happens

Found the same here. Looks like they have made stuff like power, water and even building easier so will give the demo a go.

Well, I signed up to the beta and low and behold, an email came through at 23:00 Saturday night. I downloaded it from Origin and went through the tutorial. It looks fairly nice and there seems to be alot of scope to the way you can run the city, but it was getting late at that point so I called it a night.

Sunday, I couldn't connect to the server so didn't get a chance to play. I tried again last night only to find the beta has closed!

So, it looks ok but aside from that I have nothing more to say!

Although I'm not sure if it's worth its asking price of £65.00 for the full version. I may wait a few months for it to reduce in price.

£65 is with the British/French/German building packs and £40 worth of Origin vouchers.

It's £45 otherwise... which is still a bit much in my opinion but I imagine I'd quickly rack up a 100 hours or so on it which I could argue in my head makes it a lot more worthwhile than a night out.

Sounds like Typical EA bullst

everything on Origin is so stupidly overpriced I am supprised they have the balls sometimes.
Even their sale was a joke, you could buy a hard copy of a game for £19.99 but the digital download was £39.99 great sale!

Just wait till its out in the shops you can no doubt pick it up for £29 from play.

I was in the beta and I really enjoyed it. It allows you to quickly understand the basics with the tutorials and then introduces more and more concepts and difficulty during the game.

I was a big fan many year ago but found the later versions less and less engaging to play.

The graphics are also very nice.

The only problem I have with it, is what I consider a ridiculous set of pricing. £45 for the basic and £65 for the feature pack version which too me is daylight robbery.

I told them in the feedback form I'd consider not buying it due to the step price.

Yeah not a big fan of Origin for buying none discounted stuff, I picked up BF3: Premium for £20 in one sale.

Also just picked up SimCity 4 Deluxe for £4.99 on there as I couldn't find my CD copy anywhere.

Haven't they pulled all their stuff from Steam too?

Anyone getting this on Friday? Predictably the US launch was greeted by server overload with 30 minute queues to play the game.

Wow, I loved sc2000, I'm not a gamer at all but I must have spent months of my time it over the years.

What spec pc will I need to run it, will a boggo laptop do? Suspect not frown

I have a brilliant PC for it but I'm not sure I can stomach the price. I think the price for the game boarders ridiculous.

The game however is excellent, I've played the series and played the beta and it was superb.

A great quote from the Simcity Reddit page

"The only problem with Simcity isn't that it's always on, but that it is only sometimes on."

The minimum spec is very low for this type of game actually...
