I need a nut and can't believe I haven't got one.. Anybody?
Discussion
This seems just silly. I have a well equipped garage / workshop and 25 years worth of accumulated car bits. But, can I find a nut to fit the top of the front shock/strut?... can I buggery? I've recently fitted new shocks and somehow lost the top nut.
Anybody got one lying around? (its a 1.8 MK1 '95)
Thanks
Chris
Edit: When i say I've fitted new shocks, clearly I haven't yet ftted this one!

I don't have a mk1 any more so can't measure the nuts myself, but when I fitted my suspension at least 2 of the nuts on the top mounts were so corroded they just crumbled off. I found two nuts in the garage, m6 maybe? Can you not take one off, measure it, and then order some on ebay?
Blimey that must have been some serious rust you had!
It's actually the nut on top that holds the top mount on onto the damper strut not the two that hold the top mount to the body. Guess I'll have to take the one off the other side and go shopping... I don't have a thread gauge to hand so can't measure it. Just cant believe I haven't got anything to fit it - doesn't look anything particularly special (I have checked that the thread isn't damaged btw)

If you have a ruler, measure the thickness of the nut and count the number of threads. From that it's easy to get the thread pitch. The thread size comes from the bolt thread outside diameter so that's easy to measure.
Safest way though is to use one of the other nuts then find a bolt that fits it. Take that to a motor factor so they can find you a matching nut.
B&Q also have a good nut/bolt selection.
