Time to MOT the shed (2003 Astra diesel estate 136,000 miles) Four new tyres fitted 8000 miles ago,so i ask if the MOT garage can swop tyres front to rear while they do the MOT.
It failed on the NSF tyre bald on the inside edge but the OSF is ok (slight inside edge wear but its going on the rear so thats ok.Garage thinks its strange to wear only the NSF out like that
so they suggest they check the tracking, which they do and its out so they adjust it. Rear tyres are then fitted to the front and the new tyre goes on the rear (all tyres are the same make)
Car passes its MOT I proceed to drive home only to find it now pulls quite violently to the NS and the steering wheel is now slightly out of line. If i hold the steering wheel straight the car drives straight.
Garage checks tracking again thats ok according to them (only front checked) so they start swopping tyres around and it is still he same (car didn't pull to the NS before even with the worn out tyre on the front. Mot tester says its ok like that and implies thats its a old car etc and cant improve it (also I didn't want to spend too much money on it) So I pay the bill and leave.
I then take the car to another local garage who do four wheel alignment, they check it and say the tracking is 6mm out????? and they adjust it and guess what, it now pulls to the NS even more !!!!! so they have it in the next day to have another look at it.
I get a phone call this afternoon to say they have checked it over no sticking pads, worn bushes etc and have moved the tyres around and it still pulls a bit but the steering wheel is now straight.
I decide that maybe it will be worth putting another new tyre on (then have two new ones on the front) and have the shockers replaced, also my OH will need two new tyres soon and get a quote from them to do the work.
I go to collect the car (this garage are mainly tyre retailers but do MOTs as well) young lad gives me my keys and I ask him what they had found if anything, the manager then comes out of the office and says rudely "I told you on the phone what we have done - no point in asking him!!" (in front of customers)so I look at him and ask where has the new tyre ended up, to lead into what are his suggestions regarding shockers, another tyre and the OH tyres. He replies "Its on the back, I told you on the phone" (in fact he hadn't just said he had swopped them around)
I looked at him, time to bite my tongue, turn round and walked out, thought I was the customer not an employee he can treat like sh*t.
Guess I will take my custom elsewhere.

The garages I've grown up around (bodyshop and adjacent MOT station) do really well out of being polite to customers, sometimes you get a funny look when they are asked, in a polite manner, how they may be helped.
Tossers and legends, every demographic's got 'em.
OP's incident smacks of someone failing to handle their embarrassment (proprietor). Maybe the junior staff member had diagnosed a problem proprietor had missed and wasn't to be allowed to put his opinion across.

Never look elsewhere IMO! I had a nasty experiences with a garage, never had a problem with a garage found via good garage scheme!

Except its basically a legal scam! The Good garage scheme is run by people promoting oil and fuel additives, that is all they care about. If the garage fails to shift enough snake oil, you lose the status.
I'm not saying that garages that sign up to the scheme are bad as such but the scheme its self isn't what its cracked up to be.
