Tyres!!

Finally got my new wheels to my tyre fitter, but what tyres to fit??? Will be mainly dry weather road, (keeping my originals for Winter driving) with a few track days, Federal Motorsport 595RS-R seem a good bet and a good price, but would I gain with 888's. Front 225/40 ZR 18 and rear 265/35 ZR 18, is this the correct size I need to go for??? Cheers

I fitted the Federals last summer, regretted not paying that bit more for R888's ever since! On the road they're ok, but not very good on track

This is what I'm worried about, the search quotes threads from mid last year so I was hoping people have tried and liked or in your case disliked, thanks for the feed back.

Hi Paul , I run the Toyo 888 and so far I'm pretty pleased , I'm a bit concerned about the high levels of noise they make though so at Autosport I had a talk with Michelin about there new pilot cup , it has a quieter noise rating and should last longer than the 888's , waiting to get a price before I change . The Yokohama 048 are very good too .

I have just changed from 888s which were so noisy it sounded like a wheel bearing whine drove me mad, I am now trying out the Michellin sport 2s not to be confused with the cup sport, wow what a great road tyre , they have really impressed me, and they are not to expensive around 720 the set, def worth a look.

The Yoko 048s are also really noisey on the road and very bad in standing water.

Pirelli Trofeo R, if you have the skill and the budget, none of the others will come close

Adrian - Trofeo R don't come in the right size yet do they?

I think my next set will be pilot sport cups.

Until the Trofeo R comes in the right size...as I love the pattern (obviously the most important decision to make!!)

Shaun used the Trofeo's last year , similar grip to the 888's but wrecked them in 4 track days , swore he would never use them again after Pirelli fobbed him off !!! Uses Michelins now .

The Trofeo R apparently has addressed all the issues that Tux mentions about the Trofeo.

BUT they don't quite come in the right size.

Pilot sport cups look cool as well and come in our size so there's no choice really in my eyes!

I'm using R1Rs at the minute. Been on over a year and probably 5000 miles and a track day and still have about 3mm on the rears

Just to add. It was about £650 a set, maybe less for the R1Rs. Will prob have a new set of rears when these run out then look at changing all 4 when they run out again.
How much are the pilot sport cups a set?

Just looked round and those R1Rs are about £50 a tyre more than I paid last year!

Edit: The rears are about £50 more the fronts are about £40 cheaper each on ebay

I find my 048s no more noisy than a stock Bridgestone and have some some very long road trips so don't agree.

They are very bad in standing water though and wear rate is relatively high.

I've been looking at the 888 to go on my road wheels (will use 048s on track but they are expensive), but will reconsider if they are noisy

Personally I'm looking for 296/30 or 275/35 rear and 235 /35 fronts.... I like the balance that the larger front and rear gives on my car
