My yellow Honda Integra Type R project
Discussion
Long time lurker, first post! I fitted a cambelt for a guy called Daniel on a DC2 this weekend and said I should post my car up on here.
Sorry if it looks a bit rushed, I have been building this since August 2012 so skipped some unimportant bits haha.
I have been into Hondas since my first go in an CRX at 18, since then I've had 3 CRXs, a UK DC2 Type R, DC5 Type R, S2000 and now back in this DC2.
I work for a company called Tegiwa Imports and this used to be our demo car. Since the staff all had jap cars the bosses decided we didn't need a demo car, so they tried to sell it. At the time it had a full Mugen kit, Amuse exhaust and a heap of other JDM accesories and it wasn't going to sell for what it owed them. So they broke it for spares, and then used the shell as a jig to make some of the engine swap parts. When it was no longer needed they were going to scrap it. Since there's only about 5-6 max factory yellow Integras in the country I couldn't let it happen, so I sold my S2000 and bought it, here's how it looked when I got it, on borrowed wheels with no interior, brakes, some bodywork missing etc

Added some bodywork;

Sorted the interior from this,

to this

The car had a K20A2 (from a Civic Type R EP3) installed previously but it had been removed and another was put in its place but not wired in. It needed fuelling and cooling systes, wiring in, driveshafts fitting, exhaust system, and gear shift cables etc. The K20A2 is only the same claimed bhp as the standard B18C6 engine (197bhp) but it responds a lot better to breathing modifications and remapping, generally you won;t get more than 205-210bhp out of a B18 with around 140lb-ft, but you will get 240-250bhp and 175-180 ft/lb of torque from a K20, and a bonus 6th gear too.
Here is is mid install, looks a lot more complicated that it in, mainly due to how dirty it all it lol

The car had no front brakes or brake lines at all so I got some calipers and set about refurbing them. the pistons were nice and free so I just cleaned and greased them, and repainted them along with some Project Mu pads, CRN grooved discs and HEL braided lines.

Next it was an MOT, and then off to the bodyshop. I got some Sprint SW98 wheels for it, these are direct OE replicas as the originals cost thousands. Once it got back it looked like this;

Got a private plate for it;

A mate is pretty handy with a camera so he took some photos to show the colour better than an iphone lol

Visually the last thing for me to work on was tidying up the engine bay, the swap wiring wasn't very nice and the bulkhead was all dirty. Sicne the car didn;t have an ABS modulator that needed plugging in I decided I would try and tuck the headight wiring down the wings. Once everything was unplugged I found that it was hardly any more effort to move the fusebox inside the car, and since I did that I figured I would put the battery in the boot. So what started as a days job turned into a few weekends over the christmas period.
Here are the results, the battery has the correct vent pipe leading out of the car so it should be ok come MOT time.

For all the unused bolt holes the long term plan is to smooth and paint the bay, but for the short term I got some push in trim clips and had them painted yellow when my mate was painting the cam cover.

That is as far as I have got so far, plans are to get the car remapped and rebuild the gearbox with an LSD. I will try and get the correct rear bumper for it too a the 96 spec one on it isn't as nice as the 98 spec. For the full spec etc please check out http://thrll.com/car/1999-honda-integra-12812
Thanks, Matt

Good on you Matt for saving this. Bought a few things from Tegiwa (own a EP3), and loved this car since I first saw It featured in Honda Tuner mag or Total Honda, I forget which. Didn't know they decided to strip and scrap it.
Again good on you for selling the S2000 and rescuing it. Must have taken some guts to do.

Looks awesome and I loved my CTR (breadvan).
I'm curious, how do you get an additional 50bhp out of the engine without fitting a turbo/supercharger?
Lee
I know a few people who have done that. New ECU, change intake manifold, decat exhaust manifold, larger bore exhaust, decent induction kit & usually you get between +40 & 50bhp. Very expensive to do all that though. I'm curious, how do you get an additional 50bhp out of the engine without fitting a turbo/supercharger?

This one wasn't in one of those convoys but the bosses have done that before with imported cars

That's it, to make the swap easy you have to use a Hondata ECU anyway really, I fitted an RBC intake manifold and a decent intake, the swap exhaust manifold is pretty good for power too. It has a Mugen exhaust which isn't the most free flowing but it keeps it nice and quiet for track days. My DC5 was 248bhp and that is the map that's on this, it overfuels a bit though so I don't know what this one will make, I'll have to wait and see.Thanks!
They did red, black and yellow Recaros for the DC2s. This originally had yellow in but they are worth around 1500-2000 USD shipped to the USA with the rest of the yellow stitch interior so they were promtly sold on import before I got a look in haha. I'd ruin them pretty quickly anyway I should imagine so I stuck with black.
DC5s came with red, black or blue seats, EK9s only ever had red Recaros.
