1st time at Le Mans for 50th Birthday

Any advice please, love my cars although due to work dont drive the most exciting vehicle.BMW E46 coupe 330I.
Anyhow on the 24th June will be celebrating my 50th year on this planet and decided to visit Le Mans.
I live in the North West and would appreciate some advice on best routes, camp sites etc and is anyone of similar age group travelling down from the North West.

Hey mate, well done, the first time is always memorable & unlikely to be the only time you go.
There is a lot of info out there, it's probably just easier to ave a look at Beermountain.com, they have a ton of info regarding how to get there & the various campsites & check out the forum as well.
Have a look at the ACO website as well, they have some good info on how to get there, etc

As Glenn says, check Beermountain. We stay on Maison Blanche (I'm celebrating same milestone as you this year) which is a quiter site. Travel-wise, we've done Dover to Calais or Dunkirk, however last year and this year we're doing Portsmouth to Caen (dearer ferry, but less miles this side, far less road miles in France, and the overnight boat very makes it a very agreeable experience).Anyhow on the 24th June will be celebrating my 50th year on this planet and decided to visit Le Mans.

And I thought I'd be the only misery hitting 50 this year!
My gang have tried most routes and they all work. 'Cos were softies, this year taking the vomit comet from Portsmouth on the Thursday morning and camping with Team Langoustine in their private site. Heading home Monday afternoon from Cherbourg on the comet again via the beach and some mussels if the sun shines!
You'll love it however you do the trip.

Good luck on your birthday fella. I started going again on my 50th, 11 years ago and have been going ever since, though I alternate with the Classic and once did both in the same year, jeez doesn't time fly. Originally started 84/85 and stopped in 91, I would suggest (leaving myself open to criticism) that these were the better years for camping, racing , spectacle and the Fair!Anyhow on the 24th June will be celebrating my 50th year on this planet and decided to visit Le Mans.

Enough from you youngsters. Son and I are off to LM again this year, already booked. Out Friday, back Monday, staying in an hotel (some distance from LM) Friday and Sunday, sleeping in the car in Parking Blanc Saturday. Got seats in the ACO tribune. We've been going since 1996. I'll be 70 by the time I get there this year...you're never too old for LM!

Congratulations....i did exactly the same in 2007 for my 50th birthday....my better half asked me what i wanted to do for my 50th (birthday is 8th June),i replied go to Le-Mans in the TVR...so we did.There is is major problem with doing this though...once you have been once your hooked...i`m going again this year and this will be my 5th time......have fun!
Drive down to Ashford on the Wednesday, book the Travel Lodge for the princely sum of £13 each, then catch the 07:20 tunnel across on the Thursday morning with us lot. We are mostly 40-50 and quite a sociable bunch. We are driving down via the scenic (empty cross county) route and stopping at Honfleur for lunch, getting to Le Mans late afternoon.
We are staying at the PH site on Blue Nord but that may be booked up now.

I second that, the most popular sites get booked up pretty quickly, some will already be sold out unless you buy a package including crossing. Don't let that put you off though, there's always something available and if you only have one car it's easy to pick up unwanted tickets from a variety of sources. If you do want a few more home conforts, Le Bounty campsite is a mile or two South of the circuit, they do a package including meals and run regular mini buses to/from the circuit & drivers parade on Friday.

I am looking to stay at the travelodge -ashford on sunday 16th June 2013, to catch Chunnel train early on Monday, best price I can see is £24
