Prospective M3 E92 owner - few questions on Spec`ing
Discussion
Hello all you "M" experts out there in PH land. As someone who this week has been going through the numbers, attracted by the 0% APR deal currently on the new M3, I have ended up with a few questions the dealer couldn't really answer satisfactorily. I have searched but to no avail and await a call from "Eastern Boy" who seems to be the goto guy once I`ve decided to jump or not. I`m also waiting for registration to come through for M3cutters which has loads of info.
I`ll keep them brief but they may be of benefit to others in my position :
Thanks in advance

I`ll keep them brief but they may be of benefit to others in my position :
- Is the Alcantara steering wheel which comes as standard with the Frozen Silver car avaialable to order and if so how much ? ( doesnt appear on configurator and dealer clueless )
- Same question as above but in regards to the carbon fibre spoiler and front splitter
- Is the tyre Pressure Monitoring std fit
- The big warranty question - do the dealers get funny if the car has been on track ? ( having owned a GTR I know all about warranty issues and tracking the car )
- And on the topic of being on track - any know issues with DCT getting a good hammering round the favourite circuit ? ( again , experience of the GTR and the transmission heating up leads me to ask )
- Has anyone who decided to upgrade front callipers & Rotors to AP`s had any warranty issues when the car is presented for unconnected work to be done ?
Thanks in advance
FC
I can answer the first 3 questions,
You can order an alcantara wheel (slightly different from the FS editions) there are two to choose from and the carbon bits from your dealer as they are M performance parts, you can get the part numbers from the BMW website.
IIRC no tyre pressure sensors

Top man for the link - that explains that. Strange the dealer knew noughtYou can order an alcantara wheel (slightly different from the FS editions) there are two to choose from and the carbon bits from your dealer as they are M performance parts, you can get the part numbers from the BMW website.

There is no problem with tracking your car. My local dealer even helped me with prepping the car!Far Cough said:

No problems that I have heard of. I had a manual and the tranmisson tunnel got bloody warm!Far Cough said:

BMW will still warrenty any parts that have not been modified.Far Cough said:
I know the M3 is abit of a lard arse so is there anything else I should look out for if I track the car regularly other than tyres and brakes ?
They were my only two expenses. I had a set of M3 18 inch track wheels with 888s and they were fantastic on a dry track. Although the car is heavy, it will fly around a track and will surprise quite a few people.I loved my M3 and wish I still had it. I'm seriously considering getting another one instead of a GTS or Turbo. It really is that good.
If you go to www.bmw.co.uk and go to 'owners' and then to BMW accessories you'll find the parts and their prices etc.
I too have just made the leap (although a 18 month old car)....

Re the GTR transmission temps issue on track.
Whilst it was a regular problem with any tracked GTR, that is the only car I've ever heard of that measure the temp of the tranny oil.
No one has any idea if they're cooking their oil or not on any other car, and more to the point neither does the dealer.

Thank you - just what I needed
and yes the BM performance wheel is a strange shape looking at the photo.
The BMW performance flat bottom wheels feel fantastic when driving but are only available with a blue band for the M3 in the uk but if ordered from germany you can have yellow or red.
and yes the BM performance wheel is a strange shape looking at the photo.Be careful about warranty with some dealers as they will do anything to void a warranty as then they can charge fully for labour. Most dealers are fine but if you are asked if you track it just say no until you know where the dealer stands on the subject. If you have edc and put some sticky tyres on and a set of ap brakes then it really does transform the car and will surprise a lot of people on track. If you really start to push on then a suspension kit is the way to go as then they really do become quite quick on track. The 18" wheel choice as previously stated is what i did too and put some dunlop direzza's on and they are also very good on track.

Fair play .... I`m sure if the DCT gearbox was as fragile it would be all over the internet like the GTR gearbox is / wasWhilst it was a regular problem with any tracked GTR, that is the only car I've ever heard of that measure the temp of the tranny oil.

I saw your thread before you linked to it as that car is just stunning and the colour I am looking at. I have just been offered a Frozen Silver one though which has all the goodies but a touch cheaper and the GTS Alcantara steering wheel thrown in.I too have just made the leap (although a 18 month old car)....

I hear what you are saying re the warranty and had to do the same with my GTR. Just got to do some homework to see if the Frozen Silver colour is a pain to live with wash etc as I like a shiny clean car normally.

Do it! Picked my FS up today, Swissvax have brought out a range of products for the paint as well so you can protect it.
Just had the call that some bugger has put a deposit on it and it was "supposed" to be the last one in the uk available ... Nevermind. Mineral white it is then

5 demos on the AUC site, I was lucky as it was a showroom car managed to get it before it had turned a wheel not sure how many they produced of the FS, 100?
I know of one that has about 400 miles on it but I dont think they will honour the 0% finance on it ?Far Cough said:

The BMW DCT has no problems I've heard of but there's not many BMs running 900 bhp out there.
The GTR is proving to be almost unbreakable.

I dont think the GTRs box is remotely fragile. Very few failures indeed even on highly modified cars. Some tuners change the circlips but it's a precaution when running 700hp!

We are not talking about breaking it we are talking about how it cooks itself on track after a couple of laps in std trim and without the addition of an expensive aftermarket cooler and I wondered if the BMW one was the same but apparently not.The BMW DCT has no problems I've heard of but there's not many BMs running 900 bhp out there.

IIRC they ran a fleet of DCT equppied e92's at palmer motor sport, I think the box is strong. Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
