Hi

would anyone have pictures of Griff / Granny / Vixen / Early Tuscan door internals?

Think I have all the bits (and all refurbed). But would be good to have some pics as to how they all go together.

Using the Std winding mechanism (no fix sliding windows stuff).

Cheers.

I am all ears too. I just have dismantled doors. One of them is even cut in half, presumably to help getting the guts out frown so any info greatfully received here too

Not really sure what you need. On Vixens, there needs to be a thin plywood spacer between the window lift and inner door...were the square shaft passes through the door. Door latches are straight forward. Be sure to fit Pennie washers were possible as well as nylon nuts.

Jon

You can come around and look at mine.

The green MkIII has correct Standard 10 handles and locks whereas blue MkIII 1800S has incorrect later push button MGB handles and mechanisms as fitted by DG which is a common swap given the availability and cost of Standard stuff.

PH nightshift here...Richards racer is fitted with MGB units. If you require the correct inner and outer handles, I have them in stock.

Reworked mine with Cortina IV locks, and later type handles, so not much use to you I'm afraid.

I think what Jon is after is an understanding of how the window mechanism and door catches work. WHat bits should be present etc.

For me, I have only the naked doors, some broken winder mechanisms, some riley 1500 replacements that need modifying, the glass (with rotten metal base), winders, some sort of mechanism that probably operates the catch (again Riley 1500 I think) and the catches (correct Standard 10 and Ford (?) items, whcih took about a year to find!) Its a mechanical jigsaw, so it would be very useful if some one had a diagram of how the assembly goes together, so that I can at least see I have all the bits! and can keep an eye out for anything I need. Doors are probably about a year away to be honest.

Pics or Blow-up type Diagram ideally.

Think I have all the bits.

Getting the "Right" "New" door hands and 1x lock (one locks the other from inside) was a big job - but HAD to be Right, not something close (had originals but so shagged!).

How the window mech all fits together, etc.

have all new winders and door releases (again had original but nasty, very pitted condition).

Best Jellison,
Tomorrow I will make the details pictures of the mechanism.
I am in the proces of rebuilding my Vixen and window mechanism is one of the issues.
My friends Vixen I have used to find out how the rotten pieces of steel come together.

The system is 2 unequal anglei irons forming an gutter at the bottom. which can be changed in width so window frame moves in or out at the top for a good close to the body.
This gutter was fully rotten due to water along the window frame.
The connecting rod to window lever is from MG but roughly cut and welded in extra length of steel.

But stop and wait for pictures.
Hans.

Oke Jellison,
Let me try to explain the fixing window frame first.
Slide the frame in the door is easy. The frame pillars are fixed to an steel angle at the bottem.
Originally steel but you know what happens with steel/alu contact so mine pillars were broken at the last inch.
And the steel angels were totally rotten.

This steel angel forms an U with another angle that is fixed to the innerside of the door, at the lip of the recest doorpocket.
The two angles are fixed in the way that they can slide so the doorframe can move in/outside at the top.

The position and angle fixing of glass gear/handle is critical. Great loads on the gear is necassery to push the window up.
So extra stiffening is tequired by an wooden template and steel plate. This is the detail as found on my car.
The picture is of my friends car which divers a little. He used alu angels at the bottom in stead of steel.
Uploading more pictures seems impossible, but I will try again.
I stop here so you can give your reaction on my explanation up to now.
