Chuck out the carpets .....maybe?
Discussion
I'm thinking ahead here but I rather fancy having no carpet on the floors and fitting chequer plate flooring (race style) and also on the rear shelf.
I'd still keep the vertical surfaces carpeted. I already have alloy gear knob and handbrake and steering wheel.
What do you think of the alloy flooring too?
Wouldn't matter if I had the odd rain leak either and it's easy to clean!

Thats not a bad idea. I was thinking of two directions for mine. 1. A deep red leather re trim all round. 2. Race seats, roll cage and have seen a material that resembles black carbon fibre somewhere for the dash and transmission tunnel. That might look good with alluminium. V cold in the winter though?

The diamond tex (chequer) effect should give a bit of grip but then I don't need to stand on it anyway, I just kinda sling my bum in the seat now so this shouldn't be a problem. For soundproofing, I think I would probably use the thick panels of bitumous sound deadening material that you find in the doors of most production cars, should be available from most trimmers and this wouldn't soak up any water should a leak occur.
Also regarding the ingress of water into footwells, the water could drain through the centre of the rivet holes, a kind of natural drainage ....no more wet footwells after downpours. I am liking this idea more and more and I think it will look good too!

Don't see the attraction of chequerplate flooring myself, but somebody must like it because our local Max Muppet shop has cheap plastic floor mats embossed and silver painted to look like chequerplate. Spect they'd look rather sad after the paint has worn off though. Would this be an alternative to soggy carpets or nasty expensive heavy sharp edged aluminium sheet?
Edited to add I associate chequerplate with horse box flooring and trucks - is it used on race cars too? The stuff I'm thinking about is not light!

Heavier than dry carpet but it's a TVR and never has dry carpet!

Have you got any pics/links of what you mean?
I currently have no carpet in the footwells and am looking to put something water resistant

Sorry Tim, no photos to hand I'm afraid but you will find the material I mean on the top of the front wings on the later Land Rover Defender, it's also used on stair case treads etc.
