May purchase something for summer like M6, M3, Maser - something GT ish with 4 seats...

What would you take and why...?

Isn't this sort of trip what a CSL is made for?

Err, ndon't mind me... I was having a dyslexic moment and thinking of a CLS.

What's the point in having it if you don't use it?

When you're on your deathbed, would you rather look back and think 'Well, I wish I hadn't driven my M3 CSL as much' or 'Well, I wish I had driven my M3 CSL more when I had the chance'.

You're right - its a wonderful car - just not for long road trips with the soon to be Mrs. And its sorn'd and put away for the next gen.

Difficult to do anything with it if you just keep it SORN'd in a shed, see original argument. Grow some balls and take your CSL, sod the miles.

if it's only 2 of you then get a 2 seater convertible....XKR's are going cheap or an older Boxster maybe?

It will be lovely and warm so enjoy the open air.

Older cars with high mileages still sell rightly anyway if your planning to keep her a while (especially special editions). Get her tested tax'd and on the road smash

worst - I have a RRS and M3 CSL post ever.....

make it a proper road trip and take something that'll involve you as a driver, something analogue with a tool box in the back.

Lotus Carlton for me or more realistically an E39 M5 because I could probably afford it if I worked my balls off and saved up.

Indeed. It's an M3 - albeit a pretty special one - not a Caterham on aero screens. Get out and use it. smile

XK8 or SL. They'll make the motorways more tolerable.

apologies ... if it is an Classic CSL then you're right, that would be fun. (I don't really understand modern tweaked beemers in terms of difference between M3/CSL/Alpine - they are a turn off to me). Couldn't think of anything more dull than lapping up the miles in a modern. My trip to burgundy twice a year in a modern is as interesting as calculating MPG in my head for 50% of the journey.
