Heard about this terrible fatal accident on my way into work this morning, but what the hell goes through people's minds to slow down and take pictures? For f
k's sake what the hell is wrong with people.
I despair at times, honestly.

Shocking.
I attended an accident that had only just occured on the A1 earlier this year. The rain was atrocious, the worst I;ve driven through and people were stopping as I was on the ground and filming it on their phones - went on for 15 minutes until the police turned up.
I know looking is human nature, but taking photos?
Out of interest, I was told by police that I wasn't allowed to take photos of my sisters crash when she rolled her car (she was fine), is it actually some offense?
ETA - as above, do people get paid for their footage?

I saw this report at lunchtime and couldnt believe it either. The only thing I can think of is its trophy for facebook... or for the interwebs (hey look IM INTERESTING....).. i wouldnt want it appearing in my FB for sure. Surely theyre not keeping a collection to look at later. Weird habit, weird thing to do.

I don't think it's weird at all or a 'Trophy'It think it's normal for people to have a kind of morbid fascination with stuff like this.
After all, when was the last time you passed a crash site and didn't have at least a passing look?
With the advent of phone cameras etc taking a picture is just a natural progression.

Sorry, I disagree. I don't look at accidents as that's the time the rubberneckers cause even more accidents, and the thought of 'Oh where's my camera?' to film some wrecked car and possible dead person/persons thankfully doesn't enter my head at all.It think it's normal for people to have a kind of morbid fascination with stuff like this.

If it's natural progression, then it's quite sad and I await the time when people are trappped in cars and instead of helping, people are filming.

I don't think it is. You are free to take pictures in a public place AFAIK.It's human nature.
t spouted by the BIB all over the country. You can film or photography anything you like in public. There are some great videos on YouTube of people filming police only to be told they're breaking law, then the BIB get on the radio and have it confirmed it's not illegal and they slope off.As I've said before, they can't have it both ways, they're happy for the Beeb to be in the car filing for traffic wars or what ever but don't like it the other way!
The Police are telling drivers on the other carriageway to stop filming and f
k off because the amount of times this causes an accident on the other side of the road - for no reason at all other than that people are stupid and forget they're actually in control of a vehicle, and stand on the brakes to have a look, or swerve all over the place to avoid their view being blocked - is ridiculous.
Nothing to do with suggesting it's "illegal", I don't think that's the point here. The point is that it's as dangerous as it is worthless, and possibly offensive to the family of the poor woman killed too.

So it's legal to take photos while driving?

While people with average lives (nothing at all wrong with that - I have an fairly average life) are told by the media that celebrity is everything, they all want their bit of the celebrity culture. And if the only way they can get attention is by having a picture (or video footage) of a crash then they will take it. It doesn't make their lives less average (it makes them sad tossers) but they don't realise this.
It seems that it is impossible for some people to actually live their lives these days; something is only real if it is photographed and shared on a social media site. People are nothing more than their facebook pages, possessions and collections of friends. Materialism gone mad.
Bravo to the BiB for moving them on so swiftly.
Oli.

I agree that taking photos of crashes is bloody stupid and pointless.

My point above was in response to the chap taking photos of his sisters crash.

Rehab, wasn't to you in particular, just a general point!
Everyone will have a look, it is in out nature, we are nosey creatures, we cant help it but taking a phone out to film it, I dont get that, when do they think they will sit down and watch their best accident footage ?
Its got out of hand, have been to fucntions where people spend more time recording the event than participating in it.

Rubber-necking in general gets my goat, not content with pootling along people don't realise they're at risk of causing a pile-up in the other direction should some inattentive soul not be paying attention.
Getting the camera phone out and taking pictures though? Never, ever, crosses my mind, don't understand the mentality of that at all.
