My father used to own this car when I was a child, he brought me home from the hospital after I was born. I have spent ages searching for one recently and came across this:

http://www.gcrcentral.co.uk/details/items/3.2_supe...

Its slightly different to his, his was G registration. The one above is F.

Does anyone have a rough idea of its worth? He paid £25k for it in about 1988, sold it in 1992/3 for around the same. Does POA apart from Price On Arrival mean "if you have to ask you cant afford"

I would LOVE to own one one day, I need to know how hard I have to work to obtain one. It wont be for about 10 years though, so the price is likely to increase further still id imagine.

Thanks chaps!

POA is only Price On Arrival if you're dealing with a dodgy ebayer. It actually means Price On Application.
Great aspiration you've got there, well done.

Odd your father had to buy you... wink

Price on application doesn't always mean expensive, it may just be there to stop timewasters ringing up. Why not just ring, say you're keen but have a budget. If he says you can't afford it, job done.

I'm guessing you have searched other places for a similar model to see what sort of money other people are asking?

also, try asking this in the porsche forum? I know you get a bigger audience here, but you'll get a more knowledgeable one there.

and yeah POA is Price On Application

The one I've got in at the moment (also Guards Red) is £27,995 if that helps.

I have seen some to be around £30k going right up to about £70k assuming im looking at the right model and spec.

He had the 911 (993) made in 1989 with the bigger wheels, turbo and wider arches.

Afraid not, in my first post it says "bought me home from the hospital"

Not sure what has happened if you guys see it differently.

I dont get air cooled 911 prices, that is lovely but people talking about 28 grand, am I missing something ?

Why is this one 13 grand, which to me is nearer what I thought they cost for that era, is the extra 200 cc very important ?

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

I know the 996 has a reputation but really, three 996's for the price of an air cooled coupe, thats 997 territory.

28 grand for a targa with the wrong wheels, has the world gone mad !

Please, someone put that car out of its misery and put the Fuchs back on, it just looks wrong, like my grandad wearing a pair of Nike Airs with the tongue hanging out !

No he didn't. 993 didn't start being sold until late 1994. A supersport is not a turbo, very different beasts.

The nice grammar policeman is suggesting you look up the difference between 'bought' and 'brought'.

Yes. The red one is a hero chariot, and the 996 is a secondhand car.

You said "bought" instead of "brought". Hence the...hilarity...

Good luck with the car though, surely it's worth calling the dealer?

From what he told me he had a 1989 model supersport in guards red. With the larger wheels and wider arches. He mentioned it was the 993.

Is that setup feasible? Did they make it? Or is getting confused?

Ah, I can see where the prices are coming from, they are "Hero Chariots" now, not old 911's, they are no longer second hand (or thirtieth hand) and a 911 Targa is worth more now than a 996 turbo, much as I like the air cooled cars, its got daft now when old woofer like the one I posted (not the op's one) are commanding 28 grand.

Oh my god, it gets worse, the nastiest excesses of the 1980's. the heinous slant nose for 33 grand, replete with Baboons arse skin interior and a turbo engine transplanted in.
