Good evening, among a few other jobs next week I'm planning to change the gearbox and diff oil in the car (mk2.5 Sport).

Can you recommend good quality oils to use for these jobs? Also do the plugs have washers that need replacing or are they large grub screw types?

Thanks

Can't remember which oils. Try Opie oils, their database will give you a recommendation. The plugs on my Mk1 are hex bolts with a washer (same as the sump washer). 23 and 24mm sockets required or f off big spanners, I used it as an excuse to expand my socket collection.

23 & 24mm for dif plugs (make sure you remove the refill plug before the drain plug). Gearbox is a hex plug (22mm?) and a square plug.
I believe all the hex plugs have washers. The square plug doesn't.
Being a Mk2.5 Sport you will have the 6-speed so you only need to use the refill hole to check the oil level when refilling. Remove the feedstock and you can refill via the turret. Its not a separate reservoir like it is on the 5speed. You'll probably need to replace the shift boots anyway.

I didn't bother replacing the washers on mine. They are copper washers so are good to go again if you just rub them down to clean them up a bit.
