Connecting PS3 to Home cinema System?

Hi Guys,
Currently I have a Samsung LED TV and a Samsung 5.1 Home Cinema system connected by a HDMI Cable. I have got a Ps3 also connected to the tv by HDMI but I would like Surround sound for playing Call of Duty etc, in particular I would like full 5.1 sound, how do I achieve this?
I have a Digital Optical cable, is that what I need for surround sound? and what two sources do I connect it too?
I have not got a clue on this sort of thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a Samsung TV hooked up to my PS3 via a soundbar.
My soundbar has two HDMI ports (an in and an out)
I can listen through the soundbar both when the TV is on and when the PS3 is on.
So it should work for your surround sound?
I can't remember 100% but I have the PS3 connected to the sound bar via the out outlet. I then have another HDMI cable from the sound bar to the TV HDMI in outlet.
I didn't need any other cables to make it work.
I'll double check when I get in.

Yeah its about as cheap as you can get 
Its model number is HT-TZ222At the moment both the Cinema System and PS3 are connected to the TV by HDMI's so just wondering what cable I need and what I connect it to for Surround Sound from the PS3, if at all possible?

It would appear you have an optical input to the Samsung, so connect your digital optical cable from the PS3 to it. You'll need to tell the PS3 to pass audio via the optical cable rather than via the HDMI. Select the right source on the Samsung when you're using the PS3 and you should have 5.1 sound...

Quick update- It works, what a difference, makes the gaming experience much better, you can hear bullets fly past and the subwoofer shakes the room when there is a large explosion.
