A1 or M1? Or much of a muchness?

I'm not at all familiar with either route, so guidance welcome from those that do.

As I'm driving up next week, I suspect snow might be an issue. Not sure.

Many thanks..

I did York to Godalming to York across the weekend a couple of weeks back

South on M1, North on A1. I generally prefer the A1 now most of the roundabouts are gone.

You can mix it up a bit and do M40 A43 M1 or A1 M18 M1 for instance

Great - thanks for that....

How long did it take you to Godalming?

I do Guildford to Ilkley (Nr Leeds) fairly often and the M1 is the quickest route but I prefer going the M40 and then A43, M1 breaks the journey up!

My usual route up to see my sisters, Milford to York, do M1 up to M18 then last bit up A1M was my best run ever the other week, no roadworks on either M25 or M1

I'm sure you've done it now but I used to do Bisley near Brookwood from York a lot, quickest way is M3, M25, M1, M18, A1, A64

I did do it. smile

M25, M1, M18, A1(M)

Heavy snow but roads were open - very glad I went this way and not the more easterly route.

Left at 11, took 4 hours.
