Smart roadster-coupé V6 bi-turbo comes to UK

Nought to 60 in under 6 seconds is fairly smart.

The unique smart roadster-coupé V6 bi-turbo will make its second appearance in the UK, leading the London to Brighton Smart rally on Sunday 26 September.

The roadster-coupé prototype, created by smart Brabus to show the versatility and potential of the Smart brand, has two standard three-cylinder engines joined together to create a V6 bi-turbo engine, with 1,396 cc engine capacity and power output of 170 bhp and 220 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0-62 mph in less than 6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 137.5 mph.

Al Young, Chairman of thesmartclub, said: "We're honoured that Smart recognises the significance of our event and has agreed to bring this amazing car to the UK again. With entries in 2004 more than exceeding those of last year, and a host of forfour participants for the first time, we're looking forward to the biggest and best smart rally."

The smart Rally starts at Sandown Park Racecourse, near Esher, and finishes at Brighton Racecourse. Participants can arrive at Sandown Park from 07.00 hrs and the convoy sets off at 10.00 hrs.

Thesmartclub, the UK's official club for all things Smart, has already received 1,000 entries for this year's convoy, making it one of the largest Smart gatherings in the world.

From the title of the article, I thought Smart had reconsidered and were going to put the V6 into production.

Bugger!

(Oh well, I'll just have to get the Holeshot racing bike engine conversion instead)
